Spike Brewing is up for sale

Exactly! Good point about the modular pieces. Do you know something about Spiedel that I don't? I would love a smaller all in one like the 10l braumeister that had a full size mash basket. The others on the market like brewzilla and the S40 are huge. It would also be cool if they had...

Any thought provoking articles or podcasts you have read or listened to lately?

I am always on the lookout for good blogs or podcasts that are not just rehashed information. I am especially curious to hear about topics that have changed how you brew, or at least made you think about changing. Not brewing related per se, but I found these interesting. I liked the concept...

Yeast? How big do you buy?

If you want to save money maybe just harvest yeast. A few mason jars are cheap.

    New Lalbrew Farmhouse yeast

I can't wait to take a sample of mine. I am glad it's showing similarities to Belle for you. That's my favorite saison.

Spike Brewing is up for sale

Agreed, but checked out anvil and saw a lot of 10 gallon monstrosities. The point being this stuff is very overwhelming for new brewers. I do hope there are a lot of homebrewers who like mini breweries or else I see some other businesses fading away.

Spike Brewing is up for sale

I just looked at Spike's website. Why do American companies make such impractical homebrewing equipment with hoses, pumps, doors and **** going everywhere? Where are the nice high quality compact units like my Braumeister?

Spike Brewing is up for sale

Does anyone have a count of active homebrewers? Has it dropped in half like AHA membership?

    What are you drinking now?

My first NEIPA from treehouse in my box from the share, it's very good. I am going to lean that they actually do use S-04, it's much more tart and refreshing than LA3.

Spike Brewing is up for sale

I have seen a few breweries up for sale, seems like you can get a turn key business for a fire sale these days. Maybe we will see some thrifty brewers pick them up and have a more sustainable business. I have looked through a few of my locals financials and they borrow $1-2mm to get set up, or...

    It's called painters tape

You can also spread caulk along the tape edge and then paint over it right away and remove the tape. No need to paint twice.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Interesting I was thinking Nottingham might be a good choice. I need to check the attenuation stats... Well starts at <80% in '39 and the creeps up to 90%+. Reading through the changing recipes. It might be fun to brew them from the first one. The recipes look roughly consistent across the 50...

Dry yeast life in the fridge?

Yep that was the takeaway, put your dry yeast in the refrigerator and don't worry about the use by date.

    Ozzy Osbourne has passed.

RIP he went out on his own terms I do agree he lived a good long life, went out celebrated, surrounded with family and fans and on his own terms. He had a hard painful road ahead of him. And he left a huge legacy no reason to shed a tear for him. The ones that get me are the ones who go before...
