    Need Yeast Help

+1 on a starter I bottled a chinook IPA kit (northern brewers) last week. Made a starter for the first time on this brew (1/2 gallon). By far this is the best brew I have made to date. You picked a good kit. To answer your question however, with a Wyeast smack pack I find they fully balloon...

    Dme or lme?

even w/ LME the OG seems really low for all those fermentables. 10# malt 3# honey 3/4# brown sugar !! Im willing to bet its LME. If someone has beersmith can they plug it in and see what comes up

Gelatin use, Secondary with Dry Hops (?)

you should try it to half of your batch. That way you can directly compare the clarity, carbonation, and flavor effects of using gelatin. I sure would like to know if there is any flavor difference.

Gelatin use, Secondary with Dry Hops (?)

again gelatin does not effect the carbonation. Just follow directions: 1/2 pack knox unflavored gelatin 1 cup water bloom in water (let the powder sit) for 20 minutes bring to 170F (no higher!!) take off stove let sit for 10 minutes add to secondary (swirl) cold crash done works...

Gelatin use, Secondary with Dry Hops (?)

I bottled a chinook IPA that I dry hopped w/ 1.5 oz pellets. I put gelatin in 3 days prior to bottling. I crashed at 45F for 1 day, and bottled. Carbonation... @5 days in the bottle I threw one in the fridge for a day to check the carbonation. Deff. started to carb up, and OMG crystal...

    Centennial Blonde priming Q

fermented @ 64 F I have read on this forum that there is no ill effects from priming with table sugar. I am unsure whether there needs to be more / less table sugar vs. corn sugar. anybody have a number of cups of table sugar for this blonde ale?

    Centennial Blonde priming Q

Hello, I am about to bottle a centennial blonde, priming w/ table sugar. I do not have a scale to measure the sugar by weight. What would be the suggested volume, in cups, for this beer? Thanks -Ian

Adding water right before botteling . . .

good questions. I have a brown ale, same circumstances, probobly will be just a little over 4.5 gallons. Should I still add the recommended 3/4 Cup priming sugar to bottling bucket or should I scale down linearly??

    Extract clone of smithwicks

Hello. Before you jump and say "theres a thread on that" continue reading. Just poured over this forum looking for an Extract Smithwicks clone. I'm sure I could handle steeping grains, but i don't think im ready for a partial mash (I don't have my temp control for boiling yet and I think I...

    First time....

+1 on letting a lager ferment for at least 3 weeks, usually much longer, and usually at a cooler temperature. Let yours 'chill' out in your garage for a few more weeks before trying it. You can sample it without screwing the rest up but it probobly will taste crappy. Brew another batch (Try...

    cold crashing an ale

Can you cold crash and bottle, or is this only used for kegging (will there not be enough yeast left in the 'crashed' beer to carb the beer or does it take much longer to carb?)

    cold crashing an ale

Hello, I have a brown ale that has been fermenting for going on two weeks now. I racked to a secondary last week after my gravity readings were constant for 3 days. I am going to let it sit for another week in the secondary before bottling. My question is, would I clear it up if I cold...
