Shut down leisure activities-what are y'all doing to pass the time?

Why not go outside for a walk. If you are not near other people you are highly unlikely to get or spread the disease. Are the lockdowns in those states that strict?

    Only StarSan for cleaning?

Oxyclean, PBW or similar cleaner for cleaning. Then Starsan, Iodaphor or other sanitizer for Sanitizing Clean first then sanitize. Do both always. I get away with just rinsing things like spoons and siphons if I do it right after use. But to be on the safe side I recommend the cleaners.

    Only StarSan for cleaning?

I usually soak my fermenters overnight but, mostly, nothing else. If it has not been sitting around like a fermenter the crud should not harden and be difficult to get off. Siphons and such get rinsed right away and inspected. If there is anything visible or it has been used a lot it gets an...

Shut down leisure activities-what are y'all doing to pass the time?

I am single, no kids, and well past schooling age. But I would be willing to say that if a parent was motivated enough, with all the technology available. (I would think there would be good online or computer home schooling programs, but I don't know for sure) that parent could do a much better...

Shut down leisure activities-what are y'all doing to pass the time?

De[ending on the parents, many kids will be better off home schooling than they would be at public school.

    Help needed please!

Is this a kit that actually has lager yeast or one of those kits called a lager that are actually pale ales using an ale yeast? IMO 72 is too high for most ale yeasts also. A true lager starts somewhere around 50 degrees, sometimes gets a diacetyl rest at about 65 degrees then is "lagered" by...

Shut down leisure activities-what are y'all doing to pass the time?

I work in a big box home improvement chain.. I will let you guess which one. Life is as normal I avoid large gatherings but everything else is as normal. In fact the last couple of weeks at work our sales have been way above normal..... Life goes on.... for now.....

    Smack pack issues

Even brand new buckets are prone to air leaks. It only takes a very small gap to let the co2 out. At 62 when you started would lead to a longer lag time than if you were 65 or above.. Wait a day or 2 weeks then take gravity readings. Gravity readings are the only sure way you will know for...

    Smack pack issues

I make a starter whenever I use liquid yeast. You never know how well the yeast has been handled before you get it. I have not used any of the newer ones that claim to be at less 200 billion cells though. Smack packs don't always swell. The inner pack is just nutrient and it should produce...

    Remember when...

And hot pants. But only for those that would look good in them. I know it is body shaming, but wear something that doesn't show you have no respect for your body:

    Remember when...

My first computer was a hand me down from my father it was an IBM clone by SANYO. It had two 5 1/4" floppy disks and 16K ram....... It was not fully compatible so programs written for the IBM might run..

Best 10 Gal Cooler Thermometer 4 Mashing

Why not put the probe in the line ahead of the element, then you have the temperature of the wort before it is heated in the RIMS tube.

    It happened...it finally happened.

As Miraculix stated the timing of reaching full FG with an infection is almost impossible to determine. It may take that long or possibly even longer. And how low it goes is also not a given.

Creating a starter from dry yeast

This is good advise except it is better to keep the yeast in the "beer" from a previous ferment or from the starter than it is to use water.

    It happened...it finally happened.

Other than the autocorrect incorrect changes - this would be my approach. But - NO BOTTLING -.

    LHBS Inventory

After they go out shopping for brewing supplies, or in my case paint. People are buying supplies in anticipation of being quarantined so much that we are busier than normal......

    How long an Extract Brewer?

I did a couple of kits when I first started (Northern Brewer kits). I quickly realized that I could save up to half the price of a kit by buying all the ingredients separately. Northern Brewer lists the ingredients online in their kit instructions. I also make my own recipes in Beersmith...

Best 10 Gal Cooler Thermometer 4 Mashing

I would think the heat transfer to the thermowell would be good enough that you are measuring the temperature at the depth the probe reaches. I would put the temperature probe inline with the flow from the RIMS. I don't know exactly where that should be placed. I have a Unibrau. The heating...

Grain miller, how important is it?

You are right, speed does make a difference. But set up properly, including speed, there should be no difference.
