How do YOU decide what to make next?

How do I decide what is next... I usually have a bunch of recipes started in Beersmith, I then just go with the one that strikes my fancy at the moment. I have never been one to brew seasonal beers seasonally. I brew stouts for summer and light ales for winter if that is what I decide to...

    BIAB recipe adjustments

But the second one produced a couple fewer bottles of beer!!!!

    BIAB recipe adjustments

Evaporation is differed slightly to greatly depending on your pot geometry, pot material, heat source, ambient temperature, local humidity. There is no set answer. You could boil a pot of water for 15 minutes then check the loss. Then multiply that number by 4 to get the boil off for an hour...

    Only StarSan for cleaning?

Sweat the small stuff in reason. There was a video series by a guy who used a mask, gloves and smeared something on his arms to keep the germs away.....

    Only StarSan for cleaning?

Exactly. And bacteria is everywhere. Just because it is dry and the initial bacteria on it might die, doesn't mean that there is no live bacteria present. What does die will be constantly replaced. Yes your upside down or sealed keg is not going to be contaminated on the inside. But...

    Only StarSan for cleaning?

I was noting that you do use tools in the beer AFTER the boil.

    Only StarSan for cleaning?

So you believe that a dry surface will only get bacteria on it once?? And then it will die and there will be no more??

    Only StarSan for cleaning?

Really??? I can think of a couple right off the top of my head. Stirring the wort while it is cooling to make an IC more effective. Stirring a beer in a bottling bucket to more thoroughly mix a priming solution. You ARE right that you shouldn't be putting an unsanitized spoon in beer - but...

    Only StarSan for cleaning?

OK. Your sealed or upside down container. But I doubt anyone brews in a clean room where a spoon would stay sanitized....

    Only StarSan for cleaning?

Sealed is the key here. Dried up Starsan is not just dried up Starsan. It is a utensil that had been sanitized with Starsan and allowed to dry. An example of what I am describing would be a stir spoon. You sanitize it with Starsan and use it while it is still wet. If you then clean and...

    Smack pack issues

I agree with this but I ALWAYS make a starter with liquid yeast. You never know how the yeast was treated before you got it. High heat or very cold will make a big difference in the viability of even a pack with a recent manufacturing date. I also would rather be sure I am pitching enough...

    Only StarSan for cleaning?

I highly doubt in the world of homebrewing that reporting contaminations is ever going to be something that anyone could put into a report. Read the "is my beer ruined" threads. A ton of them are because of improper cleaning and sanitation. Remember that once Starsan dries it is no longer...

    How to Reduce “Lacing”

The OP could do this. If he doesn't like the lacing wash the glass with detergent and DO NOT rinse it well... - Less head and less lacing. I experience this in reverse. I wash my glasses in the dishwasher. The first pour has a bit of head, the second more head and by the time I stop...

Why did you upgrade your faucets?

I upgraded when I bought a third faucet. That is because Perlick discontinued the 525ss and replaced it with the 630ss. Before that I had picnic taps. I went with Perlicks right away as they seemed to be the most liked at the time. I don't think Intertaps were as prevalent then.

Shut down leisure activities-what are y'all doing to pass the time?

Missed that. He could take a Broadsword and swing it at anyone that came close. He would get an upper body workout at the same time.

Shut down leisure activities-what are y'all doing to pass the time?

Taking a walk.... People in my neighborhood have always walked around the sub-division. Keeping 6 feet from other people is super easy on the streets and sidewalks. If there is no one coughing or sneezing on you your chance of catching something taking a walk is virtually nil. Unless you...

    Help needed please!

Until a few years ago when LODO started catching on almost everyone who cold crashed their beer did it with just an s style airlock. Or the blow off tube in a gallon or more of Starsan leading to "suck back of Starsan into my beer - is it ruined?" threads.

Generic Oxyclean has been fine for me for almost 9 years at a lot lower cost.

Shut down leisure activities-what are y'all doing to pass the time?

I went searching and in Florida the parks are closed. The reasoning were the congregation areas and that more people would be using the bathrooms and such creating more work and hazard for the park staff. I accept that. Most of the parks trails and such are still accessible. They closed...
