    Where did I go wrong?

Finally tapped the keg of my last batch. It has a sour apple aftertaste. What did I do wrong? Is it time to dump this batch?

    Hot Fermentation

Noticed there was already a thread or two about fermentation temps. Sorry if this is redundant... I brewed a light ale last weekend and left the carboy in the garage all week while I was in and out of town at work. Went into the garage tonight (where the carboy has been fermenting all week)...

    Ignorant Drinkers

I like to go to fancy wine bars and order the house red. When they turn their nose up, I say faghettaboutit--just give me a beer.

Wow, that guy was dedicated. Thanks for the link...gave me some ideas.

    Kegerator help

Scored an old Kenmore fridge today! So, I get the thing and start gutting it. Pulled the shelves out and the crisper drawers at the bottom. That is when a potential problem occurred to me... Go about 9 inches in and the bottom (where the crisper drawers used to be) is slanted toward the...

Siphoning Blues...does it happen to you?

Racking is definately the most frustrating part of the brewing process for me. Today, racking into my bottling bucket, my siphon crapped out with about a gallon of fermented wort and a bunch of trub left at the bottom of the carboy. I use one of those sterile siphon starters they sell on...

    2007 Hop Rhizomes

I grew some in Taos last year. The Jumbo rhizomes (Cascades) sprouted and the vines gew about 9-11 feet with south west facing exposure. The smaller rhizomes sprouted and wilted back durning the dog days of summer. I could have done a better job of watering. Anyway, try planting on the...

    Zen like Beer Argument

I used to have a poster that said "Beer, helping ugly people get laid since....". It's definately helped me a few times. Some might view that as good for mankind, some might not. Personally, I liked it a lot.

    3.2% in Colorado?

Typically, I buy enough beer early on in the week to get me clear through Sunday. Something happens to it on Saturday, though...I think I have elves, or dwarfs, or gnomes stealing it from my fridge and hiding it in the crawl space under my house, or something...I don't know...No matter how much...

    3.2% in Colorado?

I brew. Saves the day sometimes. X-mas was on a Saturday followed by a Sunday. Liquor stores were closed for two WEEKEND--HOLIDAY days! Luckily, I had a stash of some home brews hidden in the closet.

    3.2% in Colorado?

Just moved to Colorado. Might as well be Utah. They say that you can only buy 3.2 beer in the grocery stores here. So I see all the big brands in full strength and lite (GHTs included)... For a minute, I think that it was all a conspiracy and that all the major brands are 3.2 beers. Bud...

    Greetings fro Durango Colorado

Hi Bill. Have you found any brewing clubs to join in Durango?

    Sulpher in my water

Just moved and the new house's well pumps out some sulpher smelling water. Not exactly what you want to smell while you are trying to relax and have a beer. So, to get to the question, any chance this will boil off or will the wort's beautiful smell overpower it? Or, am I buying arrowhead...

    Oops, I need a fix

I remember reading something about that in Palmer's book, but I think I was enjoying some of the fruits of my labor at the time. The information somehow gets into my head, but its fuzzy to say the least. When I saw some green on the chiller the next morning, it started coming back to me. My...

    Oops, I need a fix

Left my copper wort chiller in a bucket of bleach solution overnight. Woke up to green tarnish all over the coper. How do I fix it?

    blowout

Looks like a very full 5 gallon carboy. If it is, I would recommend upgrading to the 6.5. They allow a little room at the top for the yeast to work and for the gasses to collect and escape. If that is a 6.5 gallon carboy and you brewed 5 gallons of beer, I'm very impressed with your...

    Any Hangover M.D.'s ?

I agree. Just say the word Irish Carbomb and I feel like yukeing. I'll have to kill many more brain cells over the next couple of years before I will be able to forget that night of binge drinking. Don't ruin good beer with someone's crappy idea for a booze concotion.

    Brew Pub / Brewery Employment

This may not sound as sexy, but if you are willing to relocate, there are opportunities at some of the larger "chain" breweries (Hops, Gordon Bierch, etc). Otherwise, move to Colorado or Portland....throw a rock and you will hit a brewery.

    Rhizomes are in!

ordered mine: Cascade (upgraded to root) Magnum Hood Sterling Willamette Pearle I tend to order a lot online after a few brews, but I took advantage of their bulk discounts (fresh hops). Once the frost clears, I'm digging a hole, dropping them in and filling it with steer poop.

    The pilsner that wouldn't die

Brewed up a pilsner about 4 weeks ago. I was going to transfer to 2ndary after two weeks, but the airlock was firing once every 7-10 secs. Finally, shortly after the end of the third week, the airlock slowed down to once every 20 sec so I transfered to the 2ndary. Now it is firing once every...
