    CFC Question

I gravity feed my cfc. Works just fine. I am, however, planning to put a ball valve on my kettle and prolly gonna put some sort of filter on the inside, I've had it clog with trub before. Not fun.

Target hops smell like pot/farmhouse ?

Well since hops and marijuana are very similar botanically (being in the same plant family and all) that doesn't surprise me. They both have similar aromatic compounds in them.

How has your Brewery grown in 2010

After finally graduating college and getting a real job, I am finally able to afford real brewing equipment. In 2010 I got 6.5 gal fermentor 5 gal fermentor turkey fryer kit w/ 7.5 gal pot supplies to build a counterflow chiller bottle tree bench apper 10 gal rubbermaid (found it at...

    Oxiclean vs. Oxiclean Free

If you want to get the stuff real cheap and in bulk, you can buy sodium percarbonate from pool supply stores. It is the active ingredient in oxy clean, and is much cheaper. Oxy clean has a bunch of additives for scent and everything because its made for use in laundry, if you get the generic...

    Stuck fermentation

I didn't write down the volume of my starter. I am pretty sure tho that it was about a liter. The initial fermentation took off very quickly for some time. Yeast was going through the blowoff for a few days even. I was thinking of getting some champagne yeast because it can handle the high...

    Stuck fermentation

It was 5 lbs dark and 5 lbs amber dry malt extract.

    Stuck fermentation

Yeah I took my gravity reading after transferring that was my bad. It was an extract recipe that had about 10 lbs of extract and 1 lb of brown sugar. For specialty grains I had some crystal 60 I think and some dark malts for color. I can't remember how big my started was but it needed a blowoff...

    Stuck fermentation

So I have have an imperial stout that has been going for about 4 weeks. My OG was super high at about 1.104 and when I racked it the reading was about 1.040. Its been in secondary for about 2 weeks and hasn't gone down at all. 1.040 seems way too high for it. I was considering pitching some...

First double brew day, first decoction, first yeast starter.....

You gotta pack as many firsts into every brew you do! I did my first yeast starter, my first big beer, my first use of my turkey fryer, and my first use of my homemade wort chiller all in the same brew day. Its always an adventure :mug:

    Great Holiday Ale Extract Recipe

If you are worried about schedule, just keep it in primary till it ferments out and do all your aging in the bottles. That way you can be impatient and drink up before its "technically" ready.:mug:

How many gallons of Brandon O's Graff have been made?

Finished my first batch, just about to pitch! 1230 + 5 = 1235

    Spontaneous fermentation!!

So I got a few gallons of preservative-free cider from my local orchard that I had planned on making into hard cider. One of these gallons was left in the back of my fridge for prolly a good month. Today when I was cleaning everything, I noticed that the bottle looked a little bigger than usual...

Thoughts on a Christmas 12-pack Gift

Man I wish I were your friend! :tank: Barley Wines are great winter warmer, same with the cider. For the cider, I would suggest using some crystal malts/dme and some seasonal spices to give it a bit of an apple pie sort of feel to it. Thats what I plan on doing come Christmas time.

    Good first beer choice

I am also thinking of taking the dive into all grain soon. I found the Ed Worts Hause Pale Ale to be intriguing and it looks simple enough. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f66/bee-cave-brewery-haus-pale-ale-31793/

    5 to 2.5 Gallon

One thing to consider is if you bottle condition. You are gonna want to use less priming sugar (I'm sure you already knew that tho)
  17. LambChop4Prez

OK, I'll admit it. I will probably never brew an IPA.

Not quite the same with IPAs, but I am not a fan of hefes and lagers. But hey, to each his own. We all got into the hobbie for the same reason, to make beer we like to drink and have a good variety in what we drink.

Sam Adams to lose craft beer status

I don't think they should designate a "craft" brewery based on its output. Sam Adams still has more of a focus on quality, and they make more than just a generic american light lager. Its more a question on size, they are getting bigger, so they have to roll with the big boys now. It's...

    Northern brewer or Midwest ?

Ive kinda noticed that midwest is cheaper. My last order I got a free upgrade of my DME as well, cant beat free stuff!
