I forgot a hop addition in the boil ..

I with the don't worry about it and toss in with dry hop addition camp. I don't think are you going to get what you need out of a mini-brew or starter or whatever you were thinking of. I brew my own IPA recipes all the time and always change up the additions and hops, it does have an...

1st time brewer ... Worried about fermentation temps in hot climate?

:off: I think everyone's first beer kit should come with Lallemands Belle Saison. So versatile and tolerant to temps.

    Carboy vs fermenting bucket

For primary the use of HDPE (plastic bucket), or PETE (better bottle, plastic carboy), or glass is all personal preference. I prefer using 6g Better Bottle knock-offs (which I find to be more durable than the actual Better Bottle brand) Although, if you are doing a secondary you should try to...

    C02 Pressure

If you are using a plastic 2L soda bottle they can handle a lot of pressure and the carbonation cap and definitely handle 30psi. Take you beer in the bottle and put in your fridge until it is cold. Adjust regulator to 30 PSI Attack Co2 to carb cap remove co2 shake repeat 2 or 3 times...

Is gelatine a bad idea with wheat beers?

Not to take anything away from WB-06, but you should give some of the liquid wheat ale strains a try, in my opinion they are superior to the dry wheat yeasts.

When 5 gallons just isn't enough....

You could always use DME or LME to get the gravity where you want it for a 10g batch. ORRR You could do two mashes and sparges, although that might be time prohibitive.

    Yeast Starter - who's right...?

If you have a fresh (check the date) culture of Wyeast or Whitelabs you are PROBABLY fine directly pitching into our 1.055 wort as long use you properly aerate/oxygenate. But you never know how the yeast was handled and what it was subjected to after it left the manufacturers' lab. So, if you...

Is gelatine a bad idea with wheat beers?

I wouldn't fine the beer if you used a wheat ale yeast. So much of the flavor profile in a wheat ale comes from the yeast in suspension. On the other hand if you used chico or a clean american ale yeast I don't think it would do any harm and might actually improve the beer. I can tell you...

    nottingham w.t.f.

Didn't realize you weren't a new brewer. Sorry, should have realized that. I see threads on here all the time when newbies are trying to figure out why they on got 30% efficiency in their first mash and it seems pretty typical they are using the dial thermometer that came with their kit, which...

    nottingham w.t.f.

Hey man, lots of comments, but have you checked your thermometer to make sure it is accurate? I have had dial thermometers be off by 40* before.

    Secondary or keg

I haven't read much about this on this forum and it doesn't seem that too many people have had problems with it or if folks have had a problems they haven't really mentioned it, but I've had issues with infections in kegs while conditioning beers in them at room temp. Another fellow homebrewer...

My last 4 beers last like burnt plastic hospital...

Have you done any research on camden tablets and temperature. When I used to use them I would use at whatever temp the water came out of the faucet. Is there any possibility it is denatured at 120* -- I don't know. It has been a while since I have brewed extract but I think you should be...

    Suggestions on cheap brew

Scottish Ales and Irish Red's are pretty cheap. Don't have a recipe but hops and yeast tend to drive up costs. You can make both with US-05 and their hop bills are on the low side.

    Brew day but no Yeast!

I was aware of botulism but I was also aware of how rare and unlikely a botulism infection is. There are something like 20 cases a year in the US. Although, rare it is not something you want to mess around with. I found an article on the exact topic. The conclusion being, an overnight...

    Brew day but no Yeast!

Some of these no-chill crazies (j/k I've no chilled before) will take the boiling hot wort and go straight to winpak's and keep them without pitching yeast for weeks. I'm not sure a keg is a great idea because of the vacuum it creates. Might want to hook up to CO2 and leave at 2psi or...

The Best Craft Brewery in Each State?

I'm surprised that no one from Maryland has piped up to disagree about Du-Claw. Sure they make good beer, but I don't think they are in the same league as Evolution, Brewer's Art and Burley Oak. I think a lot of my bartenders, home brew buddies and craft beer friends would also agree. Two...

    Recipe Advice

I have a RIS that has been aging in my basement since March. I have it sitting on 2oz of oak. It has been pretty difficult to leave them alone. Trust me on this, hide a few bottles from yourself and let it get 9+ months on it. You will thank yourself. In the meantime brew something you can...

Advise on WLP670 Saison I brewed

Ok, thanks for answering my questions. I'm just going to leave this guy alone until it hit six months. Just keeping my fingers crossed it will develop some Brett character. As i said, I don't really like messing with my beer after I pitch my yeast so I'll be patient with this one and wait...
