How To Deal With A Loose Fermenter Lid?

So I took a gravity reading yesterday, and, of course, it is beer. Apart from tasting a little green, everything is great. I noticed that one thing that was a little disconcerting, even though it didn't really matter. The lid wasn't all the way on. I'll have to check it out before I use it...

How To Deal With A Loose Fermenter Lid?

Yeah, I'm not worried...now. In all seriousness, though, I used Danstar Notty, so I wouldn't be all that surprised if the fermentation went all nutty in the first three days and I missed the whole show. I'll just wait patiently until I take my reading. This is gonna be murder on my ADHD. I...

How To Deal With A Loose Fermenter Lid?

So I used Saran-wrap and duct tape to secure the lid. I am absolutely sure things are going according to plan, even though there hasn't been anything out of the bubbler. It may be as I originally thought that the yeast is being gentle or that it fermented quickly. I'll take a gravity reading...

How To Deal With A Loose Fermenter Lid?

I was considering the idea of using a Saran-wrap to go around the edge. It's not that getting a new lid would kill me at this point. It's more that I don't really have much in the way of time to go to the hardware store, get a lid, drill a hole in it, and then attach a grommet. Before long I...

How To Deal With A Loose Fermenter Lid?

It's the Northern Brewer drilled lid. I haven't had any issues with fermentation, so my only guess is that it's just not getting a good seal. I'm curious to see if there's a way to improve the seal without going too far out of my way.

How To Deal With A Loose Fermenter Lid?

I'm pretty sure the lid on my primary fermenter bucket is loose. The reason for this is that it's my second batch in there, and I'm getting zero activity in the bubbler airlock. Now, before anyone jumps on the 'get a clear carboy' wagon, I have one that I'm using for secondary. What I'd really...

Cooling Wort Between Steeping And Boil?

Yeah, I wouldn't have done the boil if I didn't have the time to finish everything. The only reason I started in the first place was because I had plenty of time, but then things got in the way that made it impossible to see it all the way through.

Cooling Wort Between Steeping And Boil?

Right, well, based on the suggestions here, it seemed like it would work. I bungeed the lid onto the kettle to keep things out, and just let it cool. The only issue I had three hours later was that it took a while to get rolling with the boil, but once it was going everything went according to...

Cooling Wort Between Steeping And Boil?

So after sitting on it for a day, I'm pretty sure that everything has worked out. It's a sweet stout, and the initial gravity reading was 1.062. A touch high but it's tolerable. I used Danstar Notty and it looks as though I may have a gentle ferment going with it. By tomorrow I'll know whether...

Cooling Wort Between Steeping And Boil?

Well so here's what happened: I steeped my grains (which was why I posted in the first place) and ran the wort to my back porch when it was done. The current temperature is 38°F. The water has cleared up, but we have a Cub Scout meeting tonight. I'll do my boil after we get home from that. Let's...

Cooling Wort Between Steeping And Boil?

Ok. I had planned a brew day, and the town decided to flush the water mains. My steeping water is fine, but the water started to turn as I was setting up the sanitizer. I could start steeping, but I'm not sure when the water will clear, and I have to get my son at school. Assuming the water...

Cooling Wort Between Steeping And Boil?

Would this damage my beer? If, let's say, I had to take a break during my brew, and couldn't start the boil right away, could I leave the steeped wort alone for a bit until I could start the boil? This could define how I handle my brew day.

    Klingon Stout

I'm gonna be making this one up in a couple of weeks. I have decided I will call it "Sons of Mogh Stout". I've come up with a label and everything. I guess that mans I'm excited.
