    Pumpkin Ale

Just throw it in the boil. Look at this thread. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f76/thunderstruck-pumpkin-ale-ag-extract-versions-26699/ And remember that most of the flavor in a pumpkin beer comes from the spice, not from the actual pumpkin. Make the batch 'big' so that you can actually get...

    Oh god.

I use a two bucket system for cleaning bottles. oxyclean, and they can just stay in there for as long as they need to, at least overnight. From there I pull them out, usually the labels and most of the glue just falls right off, and I rinse the bottle once real quick just to get as much residue...

    GF Malted Millet--CO Malting Company

Mariposa, pm sent. As far as how they plan to deal with the dust situation, in the grand scheme of things with the concentrations that I worry about for the people that I brew for, I don't think it's a problem. That being said, they do seem to be conscience of the issues so I'm curious to see...

    GF Malted Millet--CO Malting Company

I know this is kind of an old topic, but, I talked to the guys at my lhbs, and they expect to get some of this malted millet in around March 1. I have a bag ordered and can't wait to play with it for my celiac friends.

    IBU/GU questions

diS- I've seen that graph around a lot, and I think it is interesting, but I don't know that their definitions of what is balanced, hoppy, malty, etc. necessarily corresponds to what people might perceive and desire. The point of brewing is to make something that you (and I guess your...

Temperature question regarding experience with first all grain brew

Use a brewing software or http://www.rackers.org/calcs.shtml to figure it out right on. Brewsmith will even make adjustments for 'cold' equipment, but I don't trust that (or really I don't trust my processes as much when using that) and work to try to use hot water to preheat to my mash temp...

    IBU/GU questions

While I think it is GREAT for comparing similar or same styles of beer, I do think it has usefulness outside of that. I do notice, from drinking commercial beers, that I am very fond of beers that happen to be around the .8-1 IBU/GU number. Like pales ales that run in the 1.050 OG (5%abv) and...

    IBU/GU questions

I think this is something that works well within a range, a fairly broad range, but on outliers it will probably be different. I like to think of it and use it as a comparison tool. I don't know how useful it is to compare a high grav IIPA with my blonde/cream ale. That being said, I do...

    Gravity Question...

People argue for secondary, but I think that it's really not necessary for a lot of beers, especially 'normal' ales. When I first got started, I thought it was an important step. Lately, a lot of the guys around here, especially ones that I respect and trust, have been advocating just going...

    Assembling my Brew Equipment

If you want to do full boils for 5 gallon batches, get the 40 qt pot. By the time you get the 6.5+ (depending on length of boil and how much you have to leave behind to trub and hop sludge) gallons in the pot, you're going to really be pushing a 7.5/8 gallon pot. Life is a lot easier when you...

    IBU/GU questions

It's just another number that you can use to give you an idea about what your beer is going to taste like, and a way to balance the malt and the hops. Another thing to keep in mind is that 'IBU' is at best an estimate, depending on which calculation is used, I've seen dramatic differences in...

    Is this poision

Not a problem. But using oxyclean will leave a residue/film behind, and is extremely hard to rinse off well. The trick is to use two buckets, one with oxyclean, the other with a strong (like, way above sanitizer concentration) star san solution. Soak in oxyclean until the labels fall off, quick...

    new brew pot

The blichmanns are awesome, definitely not cheap, but it's one of those things where I think it's worth it because it just works exactly the way you want it to. I do understand that they've been having issues with supply, so the boilermakers are getting to be hard to come by.

Colorado Malting Company-Any Group Buys Planned?

I'm in the Denver area, and I'd love to get in on a group buy from CMC. Let me know when/if this goes anywhere.

    DIY Conical Fermenter

I know I'm reviving an ancient thread, but I love the design, I hadn't come across toledo metal before, and I bet you could come up with a functional version of these for 10 gal batches for 300/each, if you had the metalworking capabilities (which I do). I think this could even be made...

Semi-Automatic HERMS System (Work in Progress)

Love the rig, the bbq, and the dog. We have a 2.5 year old brown lab named...stella. Your build(s) are inspiring me to get on top of my own major brewery upgrade. Thanks

    Yeast Cakes

Yeah, washing yeast is the next step, and I've known that for a long time, I just haven't had the chance to get all the stuff put together. I guess I'll make that the priority over getting the next batch going. It's good to have other people look at this stuff, there are just some angles...

    Yeast Cakes

Okay, fine, I'll do it the right way. Lately I've really been trying to be a lot more careful and consistent with it, so it makes sense that I should put the effort in with this too. I recently started to get the feeling that I've passed some of the guys at my LHBS, at least from a...

    Yeast Cakes

Mmmmm sounds delicious. But seriously, I finally got my pitching rates to a respectable level with my last 2 batches, and had a pale ale and an IPA that both fermented through the roof. Finally made a starter, for the pale, and then just dumped the IPA right on top of the yeast cake. So my...

    The 'Keezer' Project

Absolutely love the build. 14.8 CF gets here tommorow and your thread got me motivated to pull the trigger on the order from micromatic. That was a lot of money, but if I can get my keezer to look any where near as good as yours, I'll be ecstatic. I definitely plan to rip off a lot of your...
