    Blichmann Breweasy

I'm putting one together. I have the 20 gallon, burner, and therminator so far. Next week I'll be getting the lid kit and March pump. Then the following paycheck will be the 15 with false bottom. I was originally going to get the top tier, but after talking with John it sounds like this will...

    Blichmann Therminator

Just got mine last week. I have it hooked up to an immersion chiller to pre chill the hot AZ groundwater. The immersion chiller has two female ends. The therminator works wonders. Should have gotten it long ago. I collected the waste water in a 32 gallon trash can to use in the garden.

The nugget before I moved the kettle.

New Equipment for brew day tomorrow. Please chime in.

Not old kits, just had them still during the transition to big boy toys. The yeast was bought today. Overall it went well. A few leaks in the carbon filter and hose ends of the therminator, but nothing major. Was amazed at how well whirlpool in works. Hop spider took care of a lot. The whirlpool...

Smooth sailing so far, almost at the hot break.

New Equipment for brew day tomorrow. Please chime in.

Yes, I have a high temp silicon hose for the hot side. I also bought a 32 gallon trash can to collect waste water. I will use that for watering all of the plants in the yard instead of using the hose.

New Equipment for brew day tomorrow. Please chime in.

So I am scaling up my operation. I have recently acquired a 20 gallon Boilermaker, Blichmann burner with leg extensions, and a Therminator. I spent tonight giving everything a good initial clean. Tomorrow I will do a full boil 5 gallon extract caribou slobber. I will fill my kettle with a...

    wort chiller rain barrel

Don't have a rain barrel yet. Just thought it would be a great idea. Living in phoenix, it would be empty 11 months of the year...

    wort chiller rain barrel

I am curious if anyone here collects wort chiller waste water in a rain barrel. I was thinking of doing that and using the collected water for plants in the back yard. My question is if the plastic barrels are strong enough to withstand the hot water without warping or failing? Anyone else here...

Soft water and brewing. Need help.

Thanks, I am not new to AZ. I have lived here 13 years. Just started brewing out here. Before I was brewing in Michigan. I work there and spent so much time there that is where I began brewing. I recently moved the whole operation here to AZ, and found that it is not as ideal yet. I have to...

Soft water and brewing. Need help.

Yes, I use Starsan, which is why I was concerned about the soft water. Here is the local water report. Plus the houses water softener which I am not even sure what all it adds. http://www.glendaleaz.com/environmentalresources/documents/WaterQualityReport.pdf

Soft water and brewing. Need help.

I just moved my brewing operation from Michigan and its rich delicious hard water to Arizona. I am in Glendale and the tap water tastes horrible. Add to the fact that I have a water softener in the house. Luckily one spigot in the back yard is not softened. So I figure that I will get a filter...

    new equipment?

As for the kegging set up, I'd say go for it. I only bottled my first batch. After that I got a 3 keg set up with a 7.1CF Chest freezer from sams club. A Johnson A419 temp controller to run the show, and the 5# CO2 tank and regulator set up. For me the PITA that was bottling was the only real...

    True Brew Oktoberfest lager Question

UPDATE! Well, it has been a long road. After fermentation and a diacetyl rest, I put it in my chest freezer at 32 degrees for 2 months and 5 days. I force carbed it last Friday, and had my first pint last night. It is OK. Not great, not bad. My biggest complaint is that it is a little more...

Newbies-don't trust the markings on your bucket!

Well, that is your problem then. A gallon of water is a measure of volume, not weight. that would explain the large difference.

    3 piece airlock blowoff problems

I find that a 1 inch tube fits perfectly inside the three piece airlock. I use it in my buckets. I would post a pic, but it is not handy right now. 5 ft of 1 inch tube is about right to go up and down into a bucket next to the ferm bucket. anything shorter may stress the airlock/lid to much.

    Bucket residue help

Update. Well, I left the bucket full of starsan for about a week and a half or so. Washed it out last night. Came out nice and clean again. I would love to switch back to PBW, but until I can pick it up locally for cheap I will have to stick with oxyclean.

    Bucket residue help

OK, yeah I was using PBW initially, but the cost was more extreme for me. 7lbs of oxyclean is $12 at the local Meijers vs. 1 lb of PBW for $8. Is the limeaway or CLR going to be safe for use in a fermenter though? I havent checked to see if the starsan has worked yet. Ive been away on a trip.
