    Ferrari bench capper

I don't have that capper but I started with one of those hand held cappers and it always left a dent and never had a problem with the seal so you should be fine from that aspect.

Floor-malted grain - any impact on actual taste or aroma?

I can't confirm that it's due to being floor malted or just being from different maltsters but I have tried both Baird's Maris Otter and Warminster Floor Malted Maris Otter and to my tastebuds there is a difference between the two. I prefer the Warminster.

    Boil time

I wait until after the hot break, or more specifically, when adding the 60 min hop addition (assuming there is one). This way I can focus on avoiding a boil over.

Pellet Hops & Blichmann RipTide Pump

I haven't had any clogging problems, been using a Riptide for 2 years. I do use a mesh bag if I'm putting more than 6 oz in the boil kettle, but that is more about keeping hop material out of the fermenter, I don't think the pump would have any problems without a bag.

Should I put a Pound or Two of CO2 in my Conical before Cold Crashing?

With a unitank you can go higher. I put 2 psi on my Brew Bucket, which isn't rated to hold pressure. I unhook the gas once it's reached temp but that's because I am using a Brew Bucket and not a unitank that is rated to hold pressure. Personally, if I had a unitank I'd keep the gas hooked up and...

Accuflex Ultra 235 vs Kegland EVA barrier

I just looked at the current barbed tower shank on MoreBeer and someone asked if they were Duotight compatible. The response was no but the Duotight compatible shanks will be in stock soon. The question is dated July 25, 2019 so hopefully "soon" actually means soon.

Accuflex Ultra 235 vs Kegland EVA barrier

I no longer have mine coiled but when I did the coil fit within the rubber handles of my corny kegs, about 7" diameter. You may be able to go a little smaller if necessary.

Accuflex Ultra 235 vs Kegland EVA barrier

The OD is 8 mm for both the 4 mm and 5 mm ID. The shanks have a 90 barb on that kegerator also at the time I hadn't heard about John Guest fittings and MoreBeer hadn't started carrying the Duotight fittings yet so I also ended up using 1/4" MFL fittings on the keg end also, it was a real pain. I...

Accuflex Ultra 235 vs Kegland EVA barrier

The EVA line is what comes with the Kegland kegerators from MoreBeer. Mine came with about 5.5' per line of the 4 mm for the beer line and the 5 mm for gas lines. I get good pours with 12 psi @ 38 F. If there is oxygen permeation through the line I can't tell, a keg usually lasts about 6-8 weeks...

    Cold Crashing & CO2

I ferment in a regular SSBT Brew Bucket (not the BME). I got a Weldless Bulkhead with Ball Lock Gas from Brew Hardware (sorry about no link, can't figure out how to add one from my phone). It fits in the hole in the Brew Bucket lid (needs a larger o-ring than what is included but I told Bobby...

Educate me on Star San please

I make a gallon jug at the start of the year with distilled water to keep on hand for random stuff and dump what's left at the end of the year (I brew outside so I take the winter off). No problems so far but I do make up a fresh batch on brew day with tap water for use that day. If you have a...

    BlackBerry wheat lacking flavor

If you are looking for blackberry flavor and aroma I'd suggest blackberry flavoring (extract). I used 2 oz each on a cream ale and amber ale and both turned out intensely blackberry. The extract is not fermentable and is added at bottling or kegging.

    Have you used smoked malts?

I have an amber ale on tap right now that used cherrywood smoked malt for 25% of the grain bill. I think it's too much for an amber but think it would be pretty good in a porter, not sure I'd go with 25% though unless you want a lot of smokiness.

    Gas Stove Top

Shouldn't be a problem long as your stove is properly ventilated, if it's not you shouldn't be cooking anything on it.

    Ss Brewtech Ftss malfunction

That's an excellent idea @Jtvann with plugging the coils into the heat side, I even have a spare aquarium heater, I'll have to try that some time with a saison. My issue with the heater isn't that it doesn't heat quickly but that it causes the controller to malfunction once it raises the temp...

    Ss Brewtech Ftss malfunction

Based on my experience with it I can't recommend the FTSs2 for the Brew Bucket, maybe it works better on the conical or unitank or maybe I just got a bad unit. The cooling on mine works great though.

    Ss Brewtech Ftss malfunction

Do you have the FTSs or FTSs2 (with cooling and heating)? I have the FTSs2 and had the same issue when I plugged in the heater, worked fine with the heater unplugged. They sent me a new heating pad and it worked for a few batches. Now it'll work until the heater tries to raise the temp more than...

    Whirlpool Hop Process

Another idea if you want to maintain heat would be to use your oven, that's how I maintained mash temps when I did one gallon batches. Basically, preheat the oven to the lowest temp it will go then turn it off. The downside: you must remember to turn it off! I ended up cooking my mash at 200 F...

    3 year grain storage?

Unmilled or Milled? I haven't had any quite that old (some mine is about 2 years old, unmilled). If it's unmilled it should still be good stored in those conditions.

The last thing I wanted to see on my Imperial Yeast order

You ordered 4 packs, were they the same strain? It could be showing in stock at PA because they have at least 1 but maybe not all 4. If they were different strains and all in stock then that would be odd to send from CA.
