    Fermenting bucket

Does this bucket have an o ring seal? Is the plastic bucket food grade? Sealed cuts? sealed them from what and why? I'm all about DIY and saving a buck at the expense of time and hassle. :mug: But a known food grade bucket, o ring sealed lid with grommet and air lock is only a couple of...

Please help...Ball Lock Quick Disconnect on Corny Keg Not Attaching to Poppet...

Check the post o ring for cuts and nicks, use a little o ring lube if you have it, check the QD for dried beer remnants keeping it from seating. The poppet valve (the inside seal and spring).. if you can see it sitting square in the post body...it should be fine... The QD when fitting on the...

    Tap handles

If he is making the handles from metal, no thread insert is needed.. have him just drill and tap the new handles for the faucet thread size you're going to use. (Perlic for example are 3/8 NC thread) Unless you want them to be multi fit type deals.. Then a threaded insert of a standard OD /...

First time brewing without secondary tips please

Your describing a blow off tube ... and it's not a requirement only doing a primary.. it's just a need when you have little head room and a very active yeast fermentation that may block up a bubbler or three piece airlock. Unless you have a need (more room? ease in moving it from place ?) just...

Can i substitute something for malt extact?

You're correct.. so a small 5gal amber ale partial mash recipe from ABHS uses 7lb of LME amber LME or 6 lb amber DME in the recipe At AHBS the two different Malt extracts cost virtually the same. Only shipping weight might cause a difference in final price. With AHBS running the flat rate...

    Super fast fermentation

Temperature Range: 64-72 F, 18-22C If you're sure you were at wort temp of 68 (not significantly higher) ... it "should be ok" I've only used this yeast once...and kept fermenting wort temp at a cooler 65 deg... I had a good 3 days of visible CO2 production and then it slowly, no drama...

    conditioning time

I think you will get as many different answers to your questions as the number of folks that reply. A larger portion of those that keg will likely say you still have to condition / let it carb over time. A smaller portion will say, 10 days grain to glass works great. Once it's in the keg...

    Kezzer temp comtroll

STC-1000 all the way,,an hour of your time to build a stand alone box (or a little more work and time to build it into the freezer) , 1/2 or less the cost of a johnson controller, more control. HAnds down a better choice.

    Bottling

Aeration of fermented beer is to be avoided. That said, racking your beer on top of the cooled priming sugar mix and then giving the beer a gentle few turns of a sanitized spoon.. no frothing, splashing or violent churning seems to work fine for me.

Can i substitute something for malt extact?

LMX? Or do you mean LME? LME = Liquid Malt Extract DME= Dry Malt Extract Functionally the same thing. LME has water weight, vs the dry, so different amounts of each are used to account for that and get a like finial effect . DME at Austin Homebrew Supply is $3.99 a lb ... or $10.49 if...

Little bit of reading google search finds,,, and the idea I get is.. it's not the caps so much as the crimper. That and I could not find anyone selling "screw top" crowns (caps)

    Starting Kit

well now.. I wonder if that is the reason so many here believe buckets are prone to leaking, yet not a single one of my highly limited experience of 12 batches has.. All my buckets have an o ring seal, o ring removed to clean after each brew, and replaced on brew day. A straight...

    Starting Kit

Interesting, I have six 7.9 gal buckets now.. three tall, three short, all have the o ring in the lid.. Some bought from Austin Homebrew supply and some from my local HBS. My 1st Ferm chamber could only hold two buckets if both were tall 7.9 gals ones.. new ferm chamber can hold three buckets...

    Star San in fermenter

:D Yes but not three caps of undiluted starsan in 5 gal of wort. I just measured.. three cap fulls is approximately enough starsan for 2.5 gal of water. So while a coating of properly diluted starsan and some foam from that level of dilution is very acceptable on / in some equipment.. Would you...

Whats that saying.. If you are asked a question and you guess right...was it still a guess? :D Good guess :mug: your experience here paid off That was my whole point.... it's just the way my mind thinks.. if an incomplete question is asked, respond with clarifying questions so an accurate...
