    Wayward Starter - help needed

OK, so i jumped the gun a bit and started my yeast starter for my DIPA a full week before brew day. I'm not really sure what i was thinking, but I do know that i want to step up this starter. The OG is going to be around 1.076 and mr. malty told me that i need about 1.25 L starter. So...

    Fermtech foam control???

So, let me get this right. I have the gas-x caplets. Can i throw these in the wort and just let them dissolve or do i need to pierce one and squeeze its contents into the wort? Just one caplet or 2 or more? Seeing how i have no LBHS and have to order everything online this could be a...

    Starters get me excited...

I get a huge kick out of swirling it and watching it blow out a bunch of gas! (that's what she said)

Paid for a pumpkin spice kit, got a muslin bag!

well, now that we drug that store's name through the mud… it's always good to call and try and get things sorted out before railing on a store in a forum FULL of homebrewers, many of whom do all their shopping online (like me). Sometimes things just happen. That being said, i would've...

    Labels from Boerderij Kabouter

Hell, I am a graphic designer for about 15 years, and your labels kick my labels' asses.

how do you guys come up with names for your homebrews?

I name my beers after my dog and the silly crap she does that i love so much. She does this smiling thing when she first sees us, hence Smiling Dog Brewery. PeaPye Pale Ale, Straight-Leg Stout, and Nutless Brown Ale are the first three. Carolina Cream Ale was the odd man out - named after the...

So I have the hookup on bottles right now with beer included.

I got a bunch of Shock Top bottles from the bowling alley that i go to. They are excellent bottles. Nice and sturdy and the label LOVES to come off!! Not too big a fan of the taste, tho. :fro:

    Alaskan White

One of my best friends growing up is now a brewer at Alaskan. He loves his job, of course. He told me that the brewery has a small setup that they let the employees brew small batches on. He also told me that the Smoked Porter is killer when aged awhile. I need to get him to mail me some, since...

    Beer pours at restaurants (BW3's)

Good for you. I think that's just plain weak. The last time i went to a BW3, i ordered a SNPA, the only decent beer they had on tap and was served a natty light "by mistake" - i quickly told the waitress and she corrected it, but i have a feeling that they knew damn well they were serving me...

Small gift for a home brewer?

+1 on the gift certificate or book. Of course i'd love if someone got me a refractometer. but then i may spend my gift certificate on that, too.

Am I the only person on this forum who likes beer?

99% of the beer produced is probably mass-produced BMC swill. It's the 1% (ok, probably closer to 5%) of the beer produced that i like. I'm sorry, but craft beer has ruined me for american adjunct lager. I can drink a PBR or a Bud Light every now and then, but the only time i "love" it is when...

Brew Pal software in the iTunes App Store

Hey Dave, I just downloaded your app and am so stoked to start using it. Just in checking out the screen shots and reading the description - i know that this will be spot on. Thank you so much for making this app. I also have a mac and this will be the first brew software that i've bought. I've...

Beer for Breakfast!? How 'bout you?!!

Great story. I think most of my early morning beers were on fishing boats. I've found that the best way to combat seasickness is by chugging a beer.

Best Place to buy ingredients online?

I love Midwest Supplies. I have no local homebrew store so i have to do all my shopping online. Their prices are great and shipping is fair. There has been a good bit of comparisons between them and others with fixed shipping and they generally come out cheaper. I love their catalog, too. I keep...

    Red Stripe brewery tour

Not a huge fan of Red Stripe, but while you're in Jamaica, get some Guinness Foreign Extra - one of the best beers i've ever had. Tried some in St. Thomas a while back - unbelievable. Apparently it is only available in the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. Sorry to threadjack, but it's THAT good.

    reccomend me some beers!

i just made a cream ale. it was easy and is light and summery. I highly recommend it. I'm getting ready to make an oatmeal stout, but after that, i'm going for an ESB. If you're into hops, the ESB is a nicely hopped but not overly hopped beer. Even though it is a 'bitter'. The ESB is a great...

Anybody toasted oats in an oatmeal stout?

Hi, i just picked up my ingredients for an oatmeal stout and was wondering if anyone has ever toasted their flaked oats? I saw it in "Radical Brewing" and it said that it imparted an oatmeal cookie flavor (which could be enhanced by adding some cinnamon and vanilla extract). It also mentioned...
