    temp control during secondary?

I listened to an episode of the Jamil Show where they talked about fermentation temperature control. From what i remember, they said that the most important time for temp control (as it pertains to getting off flavors) is the first 4-7 days of primary. After that, just watch out for any wild...

    Washed yeast...Now how to use??

Sorry, it's been awhile since i've bought S-05, I guess it's gone up. I was under the impression that folks wash and reuse more liquid strains than dry because of price/quality. Not saying the S-05 isn't a robust dry yeast - just dry in general.

    Washed yeast...Now how to use??

Is there a reason that you are washing dry yeast.?Why not just spend $1.75 on another packet?

"Style bias" on ratebeer.com and elsewhere

I think that the reason you see so many Imperials rated is because people tend to spend more money on a bomber of an 11% Imperial, so it is a bigger deal to them, so they want to review it. I have reviewed several beers and I usually review the beers that make a lasting impression on me. It's...

New Mash Tun - False Bottom vs. Manifold?

I'd go with the false bottom first, then the copper/pvc manifold and then the stainless braid - if i had to choose. Supposedly the false bottom is supposed to give you the best efficiency. My stainless braid just gave me 62% last brew day, boo!

    Unibroue!

It's true, the Unibroue bottles are screw-top. I didn't notice until i had already shed their labels and the annoyingly hard to get off gold foil. You can use screw-tops for bottling, but you risk not getting a good seal. Better off using the pop tops.

Whats the worst kit you have done?

Did you control your fermentation temp? I made a pale ale that fermented at over 70 degrees and it tasted like a big ole banana/clove wheat. i have since started using a swamp cooler / wet t-shirt method.

OK, which one of you losers is this?

We are still laughing our butts off at our office watching this. The ending is hysterical. And I do think he's drunk. Maybe I'm naive, but i've seen drunkards stumbling around like this. I think i've been close to stumbling around like this. Thank god there weren't any cameras then!

So I am going to the NASCAR RACE tommorow

Hey Carolinaeasy, i, too am a South Carolinian and enjoy a bit of the ol' NASCAR. Going to the race is a really good time, too. I have a few suggestions: First, you should be able to actually bring in some beer into the track, so bring a small 6-pack sized cloth cooler or have pants/jacket with...

    bud light wheat?

I found some last night at the grocery store for $4.99. I figured "what the hell?" - i used to drink BL back in the day. But, now i can't stomach it. But, this BLGW wasn't that bad. of course my expectations were very low. For the price point definitely acceptable, but not spectacular.

If you haven't tried making an IPA with only late hops...

I recently brewed Midwest's Hop Head Double IPA all-grain recipe and decided on the fly to start hopping with 20 mins. left in the boil after reading the same thing as the OP. It's still in primary, but after a pretty intense krausen/blow-off, it is showing the signs of being a hop monster. It...
