    Attenuation problems

Please explain what term of efficiency you are talking about? Can't be mash effeciency?? There are two Wyeast options, an Activator and a Propegator. Are my simple ales (under 1.06) suffering for lack of a starter? Sure tastes great to me. :p "Old or mishandled yeast" is not something to be...

why don't we worry about hop skunking in glass carboys?

DOH!! Thumbs up to you for asking

We no need no stinking beer gun...

I thought of that but if the tubing was bigger, the other end of the tubing would not be the correct size to fit on my racking cane...

American Brown Ale 2ndary fermentation time

Welcome to forum! If you are desperate for quick beer 2 weeks is fine. Better tasting is 3-4 weeks. Leave the beer in the primary the whole time, then bottle or keg. Secondaries are completely unnecessary for most beer applications. Brew up another batch quick so it can sit longer. Then do...

    Doh! first bottle bombs

Sorry I dont do much bottling - Why would you think it's an infection and not just unstirred bottling sugar or possible unfinished fermentation??

Wort chiller, is this something I need to have?

I dont see the big fuss for a 5gal batch. Stick it in the bathtub with the lid on the kettle, come back in an hour. Done. No water-changing, no ice, KISS.

    First batch fermentation question...

Everything is going according to plan. :P Two weeks is the minimum for ME (assuming a simple brew like basic ale or brown or etc) if I am super-rushing a batch. Ideal is 4 weeks for me. No worries, just let the yeasties have their time to work. No need to even check anything if you wait it out...

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

Hi all I searched the thread before asking - I use a mesh bag to remove my hops when the wort goes into the fermenter. Assuming much less trub, would you still wash/decant twice? Anything else that would be worth noting of difference? Thanks.

We no need no stinking beer gun...

Does this need to be done with a picnic tap or has anyone figured out how to make it work with a kegerator in-door perlick tapper? Thanks. Edit: I discovered this awesome feature called 'search thread'. Oh the wonders of Al Gore's Internets. But seriously I still didn't find an answer for me...

    Honest Abe's Ghetto Mill

Very nice! Thanks for posting. Sorry but could you explain more about that the actual drill bit piece / grain mill is? I am not familiar with the Corona Mill?

    Improving Coopers Draught kit

Which can of coopers are you using? What did you think of the kits at Midwest? I would find one of those kits that uses the can of Coopers you are using. Then they will have recommended grains and hops that match your Coopers flavor. You can emulate this kit yourself.

    I actually never liked beer!

Lol! I know you meant to type 'or' but it sounds like a Miller is a unit of measurement. Or else mistype for a million haha! How did you get that sweet gig, does it pay okay, and congrats on your accomplishments hehehe!

lil help with Bulk Hop Storage and Use

A freezer-storage bag (multi-ply, heavy duty ziplock) works fine for storing bags you have already opened. Seal the bag except for a tiny corner. Use a straw to suck the air out of the bag and then seal. If you are worried, double bag it.

    Midwest Irish Red Ale Kit

According to Midwest this kit is their most popular one locally here in Minneapolis. I brewed mine about three weeks ago with the recommended strain of WhiteLabs. I did the all-grain version (available at the store also) and it turned out a little deeper/darker red than I imagined. The smell is...

    Improving Coopers Draught kit

Well my only thoughts are that the Coopers extract-only kits are prehopped. If you're going to add your own hops, why not just buy Liquid Malt Extract which is a bit cheaper? You can add hops to a prehopped kit but you dont need very much. They are aroma/bouquet hops not bittering hops (short...

Received some bad yeast advice, and have the esters to prove it

Sounds to me like you just rehydrated (or proofed) the yeast. Coopers yeast is fine, people have used dry yeast for hundreds of years. If you keep the temps in the right range you shouldn't have any issues. A little time in the bottle should help the flavor...

    Brewing Doppel bock: inputs/feedback

Spanish - Thanks for the reply. I'm a bit confused because you say 833 is not the best for Doppelbocks, then you say you have a vial of 833 and will be making a doppelbock with it??? I'm very sorry but I went back to the website and the kit actually came with 830 German Lager yeast...
