Advice on my plan for WLP099 method and blend with WLP530. Est SG = 1.200

That's for all the input. I'll delay the 099 for some time depending on how long high krausen lasts to a max of 3 days. As far as everything else goes, look like there is no major change I should make to my plan. If anyone else has anything to add, let's hear it.

Advice on my plan for WLP099 method and blend with WLP530. Est SG = 1.200

Anyone have thoughts about when to add the 099? I've read that some people add it right before their main yeast die from the high alcohol just to finish those last few SG points but the WLP site says to baby it from the beginning of fermentation if I want the full +20%. Obviously I'm leaning...

Advice on my plan for WLP099 method and blend with WLP530. Est SG = 1.200

That's exactly along the lines of what I've read so far. Thanks for the sources!

Advice on my plan for WLP099 method and blend with WLP530. Est SG = 1.200

Correct. I'd like to emphasize try. Because of space limitation in my mash tun, 11# of LME will be thrown in pre-boil.

Advice on my plan for WLP099 method and blend with WLP530. Est SG = 1.200

I read from brew logs of homebrewers that the idea was to condition the yeast for an environment with a high SG. I haven't read anything published to back up the idea tho. It would be more manageable and less costly to keep all starters at 1.037.

Advice on my plan for WLP099 method and blend with WLP530. Est SG = 1.200

I'm about to go for my first batch with WLP099. Planned OG for this batch will be 1.200. I've had success with my other high gravity beers but all below 1.110 and have never used 099 before so I'm looking for advice/constructive criticism to get this right. 530 is the primary yeast for this one...

    Syrup in primary

Ended up running cool --> warm --> hot water over the glass jar in effort to keep it from shattering knowing the possibility was there. After that, I put it in a pot and filled it with 120° water, let it sit, then dumped and refilled it again when the temp of the water decreased enough. After 3...

    Syrup in primary

For a meph clone. Adding the sugars based on the recommendations in the main thread. All is going well so far except I misjudged my boil off rate and have 0.5gal too much. Carboy space is precious now.

    Syrup in primary

Sounds good. I'm adding roughly 90oz of this mix in 3 additions so I'm not trying to take all day for each addition.

    Syrup in primary

Not too worried about oxidizing it, tonight it will be 3 days since I brewed but the risk is still there. Not sure I understand the idea behind transferring the beer. I may have been a bit confusing in my description. I have my primary with the yeast pitched this last Saturday night, then I have...

    Syrup in primary

I'm trying to add a mix of LME and sugar to my glass carboy primary. I boiled them together and stored the mix in jars to cool down to add today. Now the mix is too thick to pour out. I'll probably heat it up to get it thin enough to pour but it'll probably need to be over 100°. My primary is at...

    Redo the starter?

I think I misunderstood you. The wort for the starter is 1.050. The wort I'll pitch the yeast into will be around 1.100 but essentially 1.151. Ya I'm just going to start fresh with the starter. I really don't want to screw this brew up by having it start off risky. Thanks for the input.
  13. Q

    Redo the starter?

That's a good idea. I'll do some measurements when I got home but using mr malty with estimated measurements from memory aren't turning up good results. I really prefer peace of mind knowing that nailed the growth and inoculation rates on the head based on yeastcalc's step schedule. It's looking...

    Redo the starter?

No, compared to the last two step starter I made with no lost yeast, I really doubt I have enough for the third step. Damn... What a waste of time and money

    Redo the starter?

I'm making a 3 step 7L starter. I have a 2L flask, a +5L flask and two 2 gallon carboys. Using WLP530. I have a weak stir plate from a pc fan. It BARELY makes a vortex. I plan to build a better one but don't know the specs of the parts I need (voltages, specifically). Steps one and two of the...

    5000ML (5L) stir plate build

What are the specs of the fans you all used (mA, rpm, volts)? And the rheostat? I built a stir plate and bought a wall charger with 6 voltage settings to use as my rpm controller. Problem is that I have to unplug it to switch settings. It's fine with my 1" bar but the low voltage setting isn't...

    Dual coil immersion chiller

That would have been great if I had thought of it before I cut up the old one. Oh well. Solder one more joint, give it a really good scrubbing, get 1 new hose for it and it's done.
  18. Q

    Dual coil immersion chiller

I didn't like how much could go wrong with it and how it could be more efficient with the coils separated, so I took all of the advice here and started making a new one- all copper, separate coils, and even an additional 12' coil to sit in an ice bath between the faucet and chiller (by...

    Dual coil immersion chiller

Yep stainless steel, 50' length, and the braze material (can't remember what kind) was approved for potable water by different associations on the back of the lable. Electrical welding would have likely burned through the tube before we could see it. The wet flux paste was for silver solder but...

    Dual coil immersion chiller

I don't post a lot on here because I'm still new to this so I thought I should contribute at least something. I've never seen an immersion chiller like this, maybe there's a reason for it, but I thought it would be more efficient to have 2 coils using one copper tube and stretch the coils to...
