    Post your infection

I’m using a wilser bag on a 8QT pot. Not sure if the hair can squeeze through the bag or maybe before / after the bag is placed or pulled. So frustrating. I take brew days very seriously lol. Fresh shower, clothes, hair free 😂. I guess I need to start doing this for starter day too. I also have...

So this one is creating larger bubbles as well that stick around for a while but then burst. I’m wondering if it’s just because the stir bar is brining all the small bubbles to the center and causing them to combine into what’s seen. I’m fairly confident that the only opportunity for hair to...

I just made a new starter last night and went down this morning and saw 2 pieces of my dogs hair on it. I can’t win.

    Expired dry yeast - Kolsch

Does anyone have a source that discusses starters with dry yeast. Not text from “Yeast”, but actual studies they are referring to? If following pitch calculators, I can’t see how buying multiple packs of dry yeast makes economical sense. Sure there is a convenience factor. I have always made...

it’s back at it. Yeah that looks gross.

That was a fresh pack of WLP066. But yeah maybe I should have boiled longer. So I ordered a wilser bag for my small (maybe 2 gallon) kitchen pot. I have my grain mill cranked down really as far down as it will go (a credit card will squeeze through). It’s kinda disturbing to me how much flour...

Not really. During the active boiling of the wort I leave the top of the flask uncovered because of the positive pressure, nothing would fall in (at least that’s what I thought.) after, I cover in foil and put it in a bucket with ice and water. After the cooling, I remove the foil and pitched...

What a shame that a few hours of effort and materials (more so a brew day) can be wasted due to a small, unavoidable piece of debris floating in the air lol 😂.

It’s nearly impossible to get a good picture, but I see something floating in there that resembles a piece of hair or some other type of debris. I’m also wondering if it would be a piece of grain, but it’s looking more like a piece of hair to me..

Does this starter look a little off to anyone? It’s on a stir plate and no longer looks like this so I can’t get anymore photos. I am also not a good judge of smell right now, or taste (covid). *I cleaned with a bit of oxyclean and tsp. *there was a bit of a residue in the flask that I just...

Anyone else dealing with smell/taste loss from COVID?

How is everyone doing with taste and smell now? I just got Covid (I think I’m on day 10). When I first got it, I completely lost my taste and smell. Now I’m starting to get it back, but beer is not tasting very good. When I first got it, my 9% stout tasted like an unflavored seltzer, I couldn’t...

Ferment+serve in a corny keg vs using fermenter and transferring

Are you referring to the Janish method? Or purging? Conical? Purging is very simple with a keg. Just hook up the gas line and apply a few pounds of pressure while opening and dry hopping.

Ferment+serve in a corny keg vs using fermenter and transferring

The filter at the end of the floating dip tube worries me for the same reason Janish’s method failed me. The mesh clogged. Though it has worked for you so I’ll consider it. I understand your desire for an oxygen free dry hop. I have the same desire. My strategy for this is to purge as I’m...

Ferment+serve in a corny keg vs using fermenter and transferring

I ferment in a 15 gallon torpedo keg and I love it. The only problem so far is when it comes to dry hopping. I tried this My Favorite Way to Dry Hop Loose In Primary and Kegs - Scott Janish - which was a disaster and I will never do that again. I plan on brewing a hazy ipa this weekend. My plan...

    New brewery need setup advice

I don’t think you need an actual false bottom in a boil kettle. I use one of these (Stainless Steel False Bottom for Brew In a Bag (BIAB) - 14.75'' Diameter) in my boil kettle (eBIAB), but only to keep weight off of the electric heating element. I would get a side pickup tube.

Rust spots on SS Brewtech Chronical

Stainless = stain less. When I received my spike kettle it had a bit of rust in it. Used a bit of BKF and it came right off and wasn’t a problem ever again. I would be more concerned with the deep scratches depending on how bad the are.

    Rust in new kettle

I think your ok to have your brew day tomorrow and then after a thorough clean do as he described above.

Komos Kegerator Bites The Dust at 14 months

On morebeer.com there is a link at the bottom “where’s my stuff” I’m pretty sure you can cancel from there if the shipping isn’t in process.

Komos Kegerator Bites The Dust at 14 months

I hate to bring spike into this because I love spike, but I’m pretty sure they do the same thing. I left a review once that is nowhere to be found. Unfortunately, I think this is common practice. I’ve ordered products from Amazon with glowing reviews and upon receipt the product is junk. No way...
