Kegging-how long do you wait to drink it?

Probably a dumb question, but how do you know when its full with the top on? Just let it squirt out the relief valve? I have a 15 gal fermenter.

    Anyone use JB Weld?

Sorry, I missed that you wanted to jb weld the fitting to the kettle. I don't think it would work very well in that context. I'm just using it as a seal to the enclosure plate.

    Anyone use JB Weld?

I'm pretty sure you are directing this one at me. I don't have to torque it too much. If I over do it, the washer will just start deforming. Because I'm using a tri-clamp fitting, There is no torque to the kettle. I am not trying to seal a flat surface to a curved one. I take off the NPT to...

    Anyone use JB Weld?

Mine is on the inside, but you can do it either way. My front panel is thin enough that there is enough thread for my NPT to tri-clamp adapter and gasket. YMMV I cant remember which jb weld off hand. I'll have to get back to you on that.

    Anyone use JB Weld?

I think quite a few people have been using it. I have on mine. It's been about six months now with no leaks.

Wroxbrew's 20 gallon stout tank build

Now that I look at my own picture, it is probably less then an inch from the bottom of the tank.

    first big OOPS...

It will save the element for sure, but then my sparge pumps will also need to be shut down too. Then there's the hot break to deal with. I guess next time I'll just remember it has to be a "Quicky" Ken

    first big OOPS...

Yes, I think this is very good advice. I don't want it to fail during my next brewing session as it is not something that can easily be replaced while brewing.

Wroxbrew's 20 gallon stout tank build

Here's a better picture of what I was trying to describe. You will notice my enclosure is lower then the bottom of the tank. The bottom of the port is about an inch above the tank bottom. You can talk to John at Stout for an exact measurement. I would have just moved it up another inch to give...

How long to dry hop in the secondary?

I add my dry hops 2 weeks into the primary fermentation and let it go another week. Works for me.

It's the Camco straight 5500 ulwd. Thanks, I'll fire it up and see what happens. I'm not brewing this weekend, so I have some time if I need to get another.

    first big OOPS...

So, I got distracted by a lady friend while brewing a porter this weekend when we both were startled by a huge CRACK! I immediately ran to the control panel and killed it. I knew then that something bad just went down as I lifted the top of my hlt to see a bright orange glow coming from the...

whats the worst brewing accident you have witnessed or been a part of?

I wasn't around when it happened, but my roomate witnessed the whole thing. He was on his computer in the living room when he heard a champagne cork popping sound come from the kitchen. He then heard what sounded like a strange gurgling noise and went to investigate. What he found was my 5...

    California V

OP, Just wondering why the Scottish yeast needed to be 55-62?. In fact WL does not recommend it go below 62. I just used wlp028 Edinburgh Scottish Ale Yeast, and it was pumping along fine until my house temp got a little cold and it seems like it came to a halt. I raised my home temp to 68 and...

Converting a twenty gallon all gain system to all electric

I started with a 3500 watt in my kettle which had a nice rolling boil at 100%, but took to long to get there. My 5500 gets there quick, and then I turn it down to about 60 -65% to maintain a good boil. I have not had any scorching issues and am using a Camco ulwd element.

Converting a twenty gallon all gain system to all electric

I have a 20 gallon hlt . I heat 18 gallons of cold tap water using a 5500watt 240volt element to mash - in temp in 40-45 minutes. I think you can find 6500 watt elements out there.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

Blue Hills brewery Watermelon wheat beer. Tasted like a liquid Jolly Rancher. Sickenly sweet. I normally would never buy any watermelon ale to begin with, but I sell booze in retail and try things I normally wouldn't so I can inform my customers. On this note, Opa-Opa's watermelon ale wasn't...
