    wyeast pilsner problems

I have been doing lagers all Summer. I never expect Krausen, bubbling, or swimmig colonies for at LEAST 3 days. Most of the time I don't see it until well into the 4th day. You have activity in there (probably) you just can't see it because the wort is so cold. The cold wort holds more CO2...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Gonna do this one real soon. I'm sure it's in here somewhere but how about strict temp control on this one? "Room Temperature" for me is 74-80°. I sure as hell don't want fusels in this thing. At bare minimum, if I were to control it to 68-72 for a week or so (during yeast development), could...

    First Run on Brewery 2.1

Yes we should! :) My IPA is almost gone but I'll be kegging my Tripel and my Bitter sometime this week. Doppelbock is kegged but I'm going to filter it as soon as I get my 5 micron filters. The one that came with my assembly is 1 micron.

    First Run on Brewery 2.1

Sounds like a blast, man. :) Haven't watched the video yet because I'm at work. I know you brewed the Bitter and I've brewed that recipe twice now. I'll be interested in your notes about the different yeast characteristics. Or better yet, a taste to evaluate myself. :D

    Disposable O2 tank question

Talk about diplomacy! :) Thanks, Revvy. I'll go without it.

    Disposable O2 tank question

I've been using the aquarium pump and HEPA for a while now and frankly, I got tired of aerating for 30 minutes. Especially now that it's hot and by the time the wort is aerated, the temps higher. :) So, I bought the adapter from more beer that goes onto the disposable O2 tanks (Lowe's, Home...

New Yeast - How old is too old?

Mr Malty You can input the gravity you're looking for and the mfg date. It will tell you how big a starter you need to reproduce them to a good count.

    Can I still single infusion?

The original name is Lemke Original from Brauhaus Lemke in Berlin. I asked the style as well as other questions. He answered all but that one so I left it alone. The recipe as I converted it to 5gallons is within parameters for a vienna with the exception of the SRM (I need another .5°). Yes...

    Can I still single infusion?

Thanks. I figured I could. I never brewed a vienna lager either so I'm hoping my 152° is a good number. I also had 154° in mind for the body. Looks like you've done that whole range. Thanks again

    Can I still single infusion?

Brewing a lager soon with 57% Munich, 33% vienna and 10% Carahell. I've never used these malts standalone and have always had another base malt with higher DP in the mix. Will a single infusion still work with this grainbill? I got the recipe straight from the owner of a brewpub in Berlin...

    Bigger Starters take longer?

Man I hope it's going good. I've never brewed a Blegian and I'm screwing with the water profile for the first time tomorrow morning.

    Bigger Starters take longer?

Thanks guys. I'm going to go smell it now. I didn't step it up and I used 1 vial of White Labs Trappist Ale. I'm brewing a 1.085 beer tomorrow and don't want trouble with the yeast.
  13. BigNastyBrew

    Bigger Starters take longer?

I usually make 1-2L starters depending on the beer, of course. This time, I made a 3.5L starter. After 20 hours, I see no signs of anything in this starter. I usually get krausen in 6-12 hours. Is it just slow in appearance because of how much bigger the starter is? I know yeast only...

Anyone know the PPPG for Weyerman CaraHell?

Thanks, jkarp. I didn't even think to look in QBrew. I haven't used it in a while.

Anyone know the PPPG for Weyerman CaraHell?

This malt is not in my Beer Smith files and I intend to use it on a Vienna Lager. I have SRM ratings, I just don't know how I should build it into my Beer Smith. Thanks

Left grains in hot car all day, does that count for an acid rest?

Hell, you may have even modified it more by doing that.

First Wort Hopping: To replace which addition

This has been a good read. Thanks for all of the info, guys. I've not done FWH yet. Just out of curiosity an not critiquing in any way but why are there late additions at all in the Märzen? Just for your own tastes?

Oh what a difference the crush makes

I went with the 15lb hopper. I'm not looking for a big jump in efficiency, just CONSISTENCY..... I actually want 70%. This will allow me to use more grains/less sparge water.
