Can the washed yeast go to bottom layer?

That sound a bit opposite to how I have been washing mine. Seeing as you are wanting to remove the trub, hop solids and such once I shake with the added water and let separate for 10-20min I keep the top portion of yeasty water and toss the settled portion on the bottom. And probably do this...

    Berliner Weisse bottle dregs

Well I have two 1/2gal mason jars I can use to build up more. And the lack of apparent fermentation doesn't concern me to much. As with you guys researching, I believe I have read if you want it to sour more you would add your lacto and let if work a bit before adding your main yeast to ferment...

    Berliner Weisse bottle dregs

After reading a post by the Mad Fermentationist about harvesting bottle dregs I tried to build up some dregs from an 1809 Berliner Weisse. Half a quart of 1.030 starter wort and 4 bottles of dregs. Swirled multiple times a day and on the 3rd day when I return home from work I find the beginnings...

I scored 8th overall in my last comp with a coconut porter. I did 1/2lb in the boil and 1/2lb in secondary. Same as you with the sweetened coconut. The added sugar, and following higher abv did thin out the body a bit. As for the oils, when I racked to the bottling bucket I cold crashed it for a...

    Cincinnati BeerFest Results

Congrats. I entered my first comp in Jan here in Dayton. My Chocolate Coconut Porter came in 8th over all out of 106 entries. Same with the feedback I can really see where they are coming from.

    Berliner Weisse

I am really wanting to try this after having a couple different commercial versions. I don't get Crabtree out here, but I have had Hottenroth from The Bruery and Professor Fritz Briem's 1809 Berliner Weisse.
