    Multiple brews in a day

Sorry I should have mentioned I would like to do 2 seperate beers at 5 or 10 gallons each (10 when I get a solid dialed in recipe) I was considering heating up all the water for two separate mash tuns, and leaving one to rest until I complete the first full batch and then drain and sparge the...

    Multiple brews in a day

With less days to brew my only option is to brew more beer on those days I get. I see many people do this and I was hoping for some experienced advice. My 5gallon setup is as follows: 15 gal ss pot 5gal mash tun cooler (old) 10 gal mash tun cooler 1 propane burner 1 2000watt heat stick 1 50'...

(SOLVED) problems with funnels not staying in carboys for solo transfers

Can anyone tell me (or link me) to the ideal funnel for a 5 gallon glass carboy?

    Carboy funnel

Can anyone provide me a link to a solid funnel to fit my 5 gallon carboys? It sounds like I need a good snug fit and a long enough drain spot to be hands free and stable while transferring my liquids.

    Unseasonable warmth

Ok great thanks. I was thinking of building a fermentation chamber as a result of all this heat. Will I do just as well to simply watch the forecast and ensure I am not fermenting for the first few days during heat waves? Or is there some benefit to be had by maintaining consistent...

    Unseasonable warmth

So Seattle got some record highs for may and now my once cool dark basement is pushing 70 during the day. Is my beer going to be ruined if the recipe calls for 60 degree fermentation? It did have a week after brewing where things were fermenting and bubbling wildly before the heat wave.

    Brewing with Basil and Lemon

Let me know how it goes, I have been barred from brewing temporarily (apparently I need a job). But this will be my next endeavor.

    Brewing with Basil and Lemon

I want to do the same (how I saw your post) sounds like the options are: lemonade powder mix, lemon flavoring and lemon zest. I am going to try just a tiny bit of lemon zest toward the en of my boil. Everything I read says to add some unfermented sugar to the beer in order to give it a lemon...

    Phased brewing?

I just came across this link and may actually start doing this to shorten my brew days. http://byo.com/mashing/item/931-is-there-any-reason-you-couldnt-mash-overnight-and-just-sparge-in-the-morning

American Pale Ale Red Chair NWPA clone

I just opened end my first bottles of this beer and its great! It's was my 3rd homebrew and I came up short on the OG. As a result I boiled about 30 extra min. In the end it's a bit sweet smelling and tasting, an everyone loves it.

    Mash Temp DIY thoughts

Fair point. The third pass is more a space issue than anything, and I have solved that problem. I was, however, assuming because of the inherent temperature loss upon transferring the hot water to the mash tun the water had to be heated an additional 15-20 degrees, which my sparge calc app...

    Mash Temp DIY thoughts

If my calculations are correct I am getting a solid 75%+ efficiency with batch sparging, but with Vourlaf and 2 or 3 passes with sparge water it takes forever, 2-3 hours! My Plan: Use my recently constructed heat stick, a pump, a temp controller and my copper chiller to maintain ideal mash...

    Extended boil modifications

So for the purposes of a 75 ibu American Rye IPA maybe it is a good idea since it incorporates about 5 oz of hops.

    Extended boil modifications

I was under the impression 90 minutes was only going to improve the beer and since home-brewing is less about cost or time and more about amazing beer I might as well do everything I can.

    Extended boil modifications

I found a recipe I want to try. It calls for multiple hop additions starting at 60 min of a 60 min boil. How would you go about modifying the hop schedule for a 90min boil? Are there any other changes to the recipe I need to consider (other than water volume, that seemed obvious)?

    Is fermentarion done?

I have been doing 2 weeks in the primary 2 in the secondary 2 in the bottle. Can I cut some corners? It seems fermentation (primary) is my best opportunity, is there a point when I can say yes the yeast has done its job, time to move on?

    Whats a blow off valve

So that's how I get approval for a fermentation chamber. (Nixing the blow off valve, check)

    Whats a blow off valve

Thanks that's what I assumed but the word explosion made me want to double check.
  19. theCougfan97

    Whats a blow off valve

What's a blow blow off valve but more importantly how do I make one? (I get they will help prevent an exploding fermenter)

    Bad/sweet odor

I have heard of this but have not seen it, what's a blow off valve?
