    Recipe Ideas for 'The Beast'

So I'm going to ask this since you said that you've seen the "commercial description." Have you actually drank "The Beast??" SWMBO took me to a private sampling at Elysian Fields in Seattle, and Adam Avery was the featured guest (cool guy, I'd give them a call with any questions about their...

    1/2 Barrell Uses???

Ok guys, I know that the standard answer here will be to make a keggle, but SWMBO just bought me an 8 gal SS kettle for my birthday last month, and my friend just dropped off a Sanke keg at my house yesterday afternoon. He had offered it to me quite a while ago, well before I got the kettle...

    Kettle Question

My wife got me the 8 gal pot listed on that site for my birthday last month and it's great! She got it from a local restaraunt supply store, so I'm not sure what the price was though. I'd go with the 8 gal too. Austin

First attempt at a Coffee Stout

Well, what I did was to sanitize the pitcher that it was cold-brewed in, then it was covered with saran wrap immediately after putting the water/coffee together and put in the fridge. I then sanitized a 1qt mason jar (and lid) to strain the coffee into and then shut it and stuck it back in the...

First attempt at a Coffee Stout

Cold brewing coffee (and I didn't know this either, but my wife did) is so simple... it consists of putting coarsely ground coffee (0.5-1 lb) into a pitcher with water and we just left it over night. It's just like brewing a pot of coffee, only it takes longer without the heat (and pressure if...

First attempt at a Coffee Stout

As noted above, DO NOT boil the coffee... I'd actually recommend going the complete opposite direction and cold brew the coffee. That's what I did for my Mocha Stout (see link in my signature for the recipe if interested) and it makes the coffee flavor extremely smooth, rather than capturing...

    Coffee/Espresso "residue"?

Ska, Yep, that's very close to what I posted a while back. Here's what I brewed, and am calling my Mocha Stout: 6 lbs dark DME Steeped 45 minutes: 1 lb 60L Crystal 1 lb Pale Malt 0.5 lb Roasted Barley 0.25 lb Chocolate Malt 0.25 lb Oatmeal 1 oz Norther Brewer (60 min) 0.5...

    Coffee/Espresso "residue"?

I found that the "film" was most noticeable in secondary with my mocha stout. Now it's kegged and on tap, so I don't see any! But it tastes SOO good. :mug:

    Sanyo 4912 Kegerator Conversion

I just did the same thing this last weekend. You are safe to drill dead center on the 4912M. I used a 3" hole saw and it was completely fine. Congrats on your new kegerator! I hooked up a keg of caramel cream ale last night to carb :mug: Austin

    My Chocolate Stout Recipe...thoughts?

I just racked my Mocha Stout to secondary this evening... and so far, it tastes great! My wife was a fan, and she's not normally a stout fan. I started with one of the chocolate stout recipes on HBT, then changed a few things (minor changes) and added 28 oz of cold-brewed coffee. Here's what...

    Carboys for primary?

The kit that I bought came with a 6.5 and a 5 gal carboy, so I use them both (plus my other free 5 gal from my boss)! :rockin:

    Carboys for primary?

I primary in a 6.5 gallon carboy then secondary in a 5 gallon carboy. You can primary in a 5 gallon carboy, but you're most likely going to need to use a blow off tube rather than an airlock, or you might end up shooting your airlock up to your ceiling or worse. Austin

    Dead Sanyo 4911M?

Thanks for the tip! I'll check that out tonight. I hope your sister enjoys Seattle...although it is the wrong time of year to be moving here, it's really really crappy outside right now. She'll love it in the summer though! Austin

    Dead Sanyo 4911M?

The guy had bought it from a friend of his in refrigeration and had planned to use it in a wet bar in his house but never had ime to build it... and therefore he knew that "it runs when I plug it in and the light comes on." I guess I might have been a bit too excited to get the thing to ask...

    Dead Sanyo 4911M?

Well, about a month ago, I bought a Sanyo 4911M off of craigslist for $75 and thought I had a great deal for my kegerator. I waited until last week to plug it in since my tower came then and I was going to put it all together over Christmas. After like 4-5 days of being plugged in, it hasn't...

should i put a wheat beer in a secondary?

I put my cherry wheat into secondary for a couple of weeks not for clearing, but rather for aging before it got bottled. It'll be ready to drink for Christmas weekend, so I'll let you know how it went then. It did taste good at bottling time though :tank:

    Desert Lambic Experimental Brewer

My dad has some of those in various sizes (including the 20 gal) that he says my grandpa used to brew with way back in the day! Apparently the bottling procedure was: 1. fill a bottle. 2. take a swig from the syphon. Repeat until beer is gone. haha Austin

    Same Old Question About Fermentation

I just racked my caramel cream ale to secondary last night after several days of very, very little activity (like a bubble every 5 minutes or so). After I racked it, I took a hydrometer read and got.... 1030 also... It doesn't taste really really sweet or anything. I took the temp of the...

    Yeast Starter Paranoia!

This is pretty much exactly what my starter did last week when I made it for my caramel cream ale batch that I brewed on Saturday. It looked like nothing was going on in the starter. I already knew that my yeast was good, from the smack pack bulge. I pitched it on Saturday afternoon and had...

    Starter Problem....

Thanks for all of the replies! I'm 25 minutes into my boil for the caramel cream ale that is so popular on here. I agree that it sure seemed like a lot of DME for that amount of water, but it appeared to work well for whover it was that had it posted in the starter FAQ, so I gave it a shot...
