late hop additions, no(or little) full boil hops

I recently tried the "hop burst" idea with my IPAngus (see my signature line). I started with the first addition at 35 minutes remaining, and then another at 25 minutes, followed by every 5 minutes after after that. I did the 35 and 25 minute additions to get a bit more bittering for a little...

    Generation Kill, anybody?

I read the book a few years ago, and it actually followed the book very well. They had a couple of the actual Marines that the book was about in the show, plus Evan Wright (the author) was on site for the filming of the series as well. And yes, it's just 7 episodes long... I thought that...

Wedding band material (the ring, not cover songs)

+1 on the Tungsten. Mine's by Artcarved, and (like the others previously mentioned) they replace it with a different size if my finger gets fat. Plus, they replace it if it gets scratched. I can open beer bottles with it, and all that happens is that it gets a very slight scuff, which I can...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer McAustin's Mocha Stout (w/cold-brewed coffee)

    1) DO NOT boil the coffee! You will completely negate the whole purpose of cold brewing it. Just make sure that you sanitize everything that the coffee will contact and you should be fine. from what I've read, since the beer is fermented at this point, it probably has enough alcohol to not be...

    Corny keg filled in Seattle?

As Brewtopia mentioned, Big Al Brewing in White Center will fill your corny for $55 (I believe that's the price, but I'm not positive), and it's like 10 minutes from downtown.

    IPAngus

The idea for this IPA started with a trip to Elliot Bay in West Seattle, were I tried the Hop Von Borian (IPA), which resulted from Elliot Bay's experimentation with Belgian yeast in other beer styles. I then decided to try out the "hop bursting" technique. I just kegged this and so far, I'm...

    Do beer drinkers eat sushi?

My wife and I go to one of the local Asian markets every few months and buy stuff to make our own sushi rolls. Usually sashimi grade tuna, salmon, unagi, but last time we added some albacore too (just depends on what we see that looks interesting). We definitely go out for sushi more than...

Come on, it's only one beer!

There is a bit of beer bath danger once you get about half way down the beer, due to the air bubble hitting the bottom. It's not a glass to hurry along! The bar may have 100oz beer tubes, but I can serve this in my beer room!

Come on, it's only one beer!

He'd love that, he is Enlish afterall! He was definitely very interested in the glass too. I've been to a bar in KC that served beer in glasses like this, but they were more like 18 inches tall.

Come on, it's only one beer!

Haha! I filled it from the tap of my kegerator. The beer was a brown ale that I brewed a while back. I actually filled it with water first to see how much it holds. It came out to just a touch more than 33oz. Gotta say, it's probably one of the best $15 investments that I've ever made...

    Victoria BC

+1 to each of those that Don mentioned! My wife and I spent the weekend up in Victoria for our 1st anniversary last year. We hit up quite a few of the brewpubs for samplers, then had our anniversary dinner at Nautical Nellies, which I'd also highly recommend. It was a pretty solid steak...

    Brewery names--what's your story?

Stubby Muzzle Brewing Named for our two dogs, one of which is a French Bulldog (Bosco) and the other is an English Bulldog (Angus). I'm thinking of a logo with profile shots of the two of them drawn up nose to nose, but I lack the drawing talent to do such a drawing/logo.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer McAustin's Mocha Stout (w/cold-brewed coffee)

I used the flaked oats to give it some of the mouthfeel of the oatmeal stouts that I've always been a fan of. When I made this recipe, I really had kind of a beer/latte mixture in mind, so adding lactose seemed like a pretty natural step in the process. I does make the stout itself more of a...

    Overused words

That's funny, because that is how I realized that it doesn't make sense. I noticed that I was saying it a lot and started to think about what I was saying. Now it drives me up the wall whenever I hear it.

    Overused words

Here's a couple that really irritate me that I hear/see all of the time... I've got... When I hear this one, I like to ask the person: "Would you say 'I have got a sandwich?'" NO. Then why would you use that contraction? In order to... This is another use of excessive verbiage. Every time...

Using coriander, grains of paradise and sweet orange

I recently did an Orange Coriander Hefe. I just threw the crushed coriander and skin from an orange that I sliced off with a potato peeler into secondary. Great flavor and aroma from both the coriander and orange peel. I haven't used grains of paradise though, so I can't really add much there.

Sanke False Bottom - What's the *$#&#@% secret?!?

UPDATE I brewed a 10 gallon Irish Red on Saturday evening. It turns out that when I bought my female quick disconnects, I accidentally bought two slightly different types. One kind can just be pushed on to the male disconnects without pulling the sleeve back, the other you have to pull the...
