    Melita Honey Cream Ale

I made a Czech pils a couple weeks ago that used a quarter pound of hobby malt and it's definitely noticeable. I would at least reduce it to half a pound. Try measuring out a 100 grains of malt that is in proportion with the percentages on your bill and chew em up real good. That should let you...

    Melita Honey Cream Ale

That's a lot of honey malt... Combined with the honey I fear you may turn into a bee from the massive honey flavor.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

It's a tie... 1) Harpoon Winter Warmer in 2008. I was at my local college bar which had 32 ounce mugs and you could select from 40 beers on tap. I figured it being cold outside warranted one of these... I should have tasted beforehand because I literally had to go back to the bar and ask him...

What does your SWMBO think of your brewing hobby(lifestyle for some of you)

My "HWMBO" wasn't a beer drinker before I met him, but he sure as heck is a lot more knowledgeable now. He still prefers wine over a hoppy beer, but in general he's very supportive and more importantly, he helps me clean up ;)

Pitching cider onto WL 530 yeast cake

Hey all, So I brewed up an abbey pale ale (my first AG!) using WL 530 and I've heard some good things about fermenting cider with belgian yeast. I'm thinking about just pouring in 5 gallons of juice/cider and maybe some brown sugar on top of the cake. My real question is whether or not the...

Can't I just use a grain bag in a cooler?

Sweet... so why aren't we telling new home brewers how easy it is to brew with just a cooler and a grain bag?

Can't I just use a grain bag in a cooler?

Thanks all for the replies. I'm just now getting to understand all-grain brewing. I really like when I can break seemingly complex processes with a lot of jargon (sparge, mash-tun, lauter-tun) into their basic components (i.e. "extract sugars from grain by placing in hot water for an hour")...

Can't I just use a grain bag in a cooler?

I was thinking about moving to all grain brewing. After seeing a bunch of how-to's about converting a drink cooler to a mash-tun, I was wondering... Can't you just dump all your grain into a grain bag, put it in a cooler, add hot water to mash it, drain the wort, then sparge the grains...

Also, this is my first time doing a first boil w/ late extract addition. I think it made a heckuva difference.

    Holiday Mild-ish bubbling away!

Just took a hydrometer reading - 1.010 (down from 1.038). And, a taste... oh. my. god is this beer good. a little bit malty, a little bit hoppy, a little orange, a little caramel, the tiniest bit of vanilla, an AWESOME finish, i'm even getting something from the roasted barley that was in...
