    Making First Starter

It IS a cool chemistry experiment!

    Making First Starter

I want to make my first yeast starter. Can I do this using a 1 quart or 2 quart Mason jar? My wife does a ton of canning and has a bunch of jars leftover. It would be a lot cheaper than buying the Earlenmeyer flask.

    Size for Yeast Starter Kit

So if I have 3 liters or so of fluid is it best to chill the starter overnight and decant the fluid before I pitch the yeast? It just seems like adding nearly a gallon of that stuff to your beer would impact flavor.

    Size for Yeast Starter Kit

I am wanting to buy a yeast starter kit that will be used for brewing higher gravity beers such as RIS with O.G. as high as 1.10 or slightly more. I may even move into lagers eventually. Is a 2000 ml Erlenmeyer flask big enough for this or would I be better off just biting the bullet and...

    White IPA

If I added some coriander and sweet orange peel to the Austin Homebrew Supply kit for a Belgian wheat IPA would I have a white IPA? http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?cPath=178_452_42_163&products_id=13288 My inspiration is the Deschutes Chainbreaker. It is a great beer.

    Bottling Lager

Want to do my first lager and have a question about bottling. After I lager at 35-38 degrees for 10 weeks or so do I need to repitch some yeast before I bottle? If so, can I just pitch some dry yeast (US-05, or the dry Saflager yeast) or do I need to pitch the same type of yeast I used for...

German Hefeweisen Kit and T-58 Yeast

Unfortunately morebeer.com doesn't carry wb-06. The order is placed. I'll report back in few weeks with the results.

German Hefeweisen Kit and T-58 Yeast

I bought the German Hefeweizen extract kit from morebeer.com. For this batch I decided to go with T-58 yeast. I'll pitch around 65 then ferment for a little over two weeks at 67 degrees (or so). I'll then bottle condition for about seven weeks before getting into these things in September. Any...

    Safale S-33 Dry Belgian Yeast

Is T-58 good for Belgian style ales? I thought that was more for German style wheats and dunkelweizen...that sort of thing.

    Safale S-33 Dry Belgian Yeast

I would like to make a Belgian ale this summer. Has anyone ever used Safale S-33 dry Belgian yeast?

    Ordering kits Online

I order kits from morebeer.com all the time. Their kits do not come with yeast so you could go to your LHBS and pick up your favorite liquid yeast if you like. I usually just order a couple packs of dry yeast along with my kit.

    Black Saison or Saison Stout?

Sure, but if the Great Divide Belgian Stout is the benchmark for the style, and what one brews tastes completely different, then one may not want to call theirs a Belgian Stout.

When Should I transfer to secondary for High Gravity brew?

Can a beer that big go 10-12 weeks in a primary with no secondary?

    Do I need a starter?

If I am making a beer with an OG of 1.05, or so, do I need to make a starter with liquid yeast?

    Safbre T-58

Sounds great. I think I'll try making a German style hefeweizen with it.
  16. J

    Safbre T-58

So could I be bottling a medium OG beer, say 1.05, in about ten days?
  17. J

    Safbre T-58

This is the one I am looking at. It comes with the dunkelweissen kit the morebeer.com offers. I was thinking of using it for a hefeweissen. http://morebeer.com/view_product/16434/102170/Yeast_Dry_-_Safbrew_T-58_115_g

    Safbre T-58

Anybody ever used the Safbrew T-58 dry yeast? It is described as a European style yeast good for dunkelweissen and German style wheat beers.

    Black Saison or Saison Stout?

Great Divide Brewing in Denver makes a Belgian Stout that is pretty good.

Some bottles too fizzy, some totally flat

The bottles that I let chill for 48-72 hours were also flat. I am convinced that the priming sugar didn't get distributed properly. I bottled an IPA last weekend and made sure to give the beer a good stir to mix the priming sugar in. Those bottles will have a chance to condition for about 15...
