    Cutting the Cord

I got a FireStick because someone at work told me you can totally jailbreak them, and get all sorts of stuff, never figured out how to do that, but enjoy having the firestick.

    Cutting the Cord

My monthly to Comcast is right around $300. That includes the home phone, cable and internet. We don't even have a home phone hooked up anymore yet I am still paying. Looking to get rid of the phone and go to basic cable, but I need the internet. Will also need to figure a way to get AMC and...

    GOOD on Netflix STREAMING?

I just started watching The Magicians on Netflix. The premise sounded interesting. Kind of a Harry Potter for Adults (f bombs and PG Sex). Thought I would just watch one episode, got to say I am hooked and on episode 5.

    I've got a stir-plate, now what?

I've got a DIY stir plate aka computer fan. Mine has a level where it is too fast and throws the magnet. So I keep it just under that speed, but I do get a nice whirlpool.

Does sparging with BIAB improve efficiency?

+1 on the dunk sparge. Very easy. I did my first 10 gallon batch two weeks ago. It took me to the limits of my kettle, so I decided to do a dunk sparge as I have other kettles and burners. I held back 4 gallons of water and did a dunk. I let the bag hang and drain over my first kettle, moved...

Brewometer kickstarter thoughts - digital bluetooth hydrometer

I contacted customer service about my 3 week battery life and they have already shipped me out a new tilt and apparently a return envelope so I can send the broken one back. Pretty damn good customer service.

    Son of a FastFerment Chamber

Mine does not have those groves. If I was you, I would contact customer service and show them that photo. They have very good customer service. I have a sheet of the craft foam to sitting on my desk waiting for me to make extra gaskets.

Glad to hear back from you on this. I would not hit with the dremel if you have files to do it with, it's not that much work. I thought about using my dremel but did not want to chance f-ing it up. I would clean the flash lines up on the threads on the lid screw for sure. I did both the lid...

    Upgraded Induction BIAB!!

I was fortunate that the spot I wanted to set up was right next to my panel. I did put an add on Craigslist for bids and ended up paying $150 for the electric work, including supplies.

    Upgraded Induction BIAB!!

I've done 7 batches now. So happy that I made the move. My nudge was the last batch I did outside, went till after dark, I had so many insects attack my kettle when the sun went down that I ended up with an infection in the batch. I cannot say for sure it was the insects, but I swore I would...

    Upgraded Induction BIAB!!

I do BIAB, usually 5 gal batches. So I am going from mash temp 154 +- 4 to boiling. I keep the lid on when raising the temp to boiling and it takes about 25 - 30 minutes. It took a little longer for the 10 gal, around 40 minutes or so. Yes, I get a vigorous boil, I crank it up to 3500 to raise...

    Upgraded Induction BIAB!!

Nice looking Kettle Jam095. Yeah, I have the Avantco IC3500, love it. Just finally brewed a 10 gallon batch with it this past weekend (been brewing 5 gal batches up to this point, wanted to see how it handled a 10 gal. No problem) . So happy to move my operation indoors.

How do you treat your water?

I talked to the brewers at a couple of local micro breweries, both places said our water is great and all they do is filter it. So that is what I do. I bought an RV water filter and drinking water hose on Amazon. http://amzn.to/2hM6TSA http://amzn.to/2iEytWl

Amazon Echo Dot: What the heck to do with it?

I've had Amazon Echo since the pre release. To me, it's just an expensive gadget. Not nearly as good as siri on answering Google type questions. I get a lot of "I don't know the answer to that question" It is not really designed to be a google search type device, but more a do something device...

    What's in your soup kettle?

Did you post the recipe for that? Does anyone else use your smallest brew kettle for soup? My 5 gallon kit kettle is now my go to soup kettle.

    Outdoor brewing

Same here. I fought the battle of Georgia last summer, ended up brewing late in the evening, chilled in the dark. All sorts of bugs come out at night in Georgia and I had to fight them off. That batch was my first infection. I have since moved into my basement and use an induction burner...
