    ? Equipment for all grain

Don't forget the time to brew. Extract batches took me three hours. All grain takes me 6! I could shorten those times by changing my gear to something I don't have to assemble every time but I don't see much gain in it. Minimum it takes time to heat the water, and hour for mash, an hour for...

    esky (ice water) proof labels

I found a great way to keep this glue warm while working with it. I got one of those warming plates for scented wax and I place the glue on it. It keeps it at the perfect temperature!

    best kit to buy

Yes! You can convert keggles to HLT and MLT just like the igloo cooler. BIAB gravity is limited to the size of the bag you put the grain in. To get a higher gravity you just boil longer. With a refractometer you can check gravity during a boil to figure out when you hit the preboil gravity you...

    best kit to buy

All depends how complex you want to get and how much money you want to spend. As a general rule plastic has a limited life. Stainless lasts a long time. I began all grain with a simple gravity system that used two igloo coolers converted to HLT and MLT and a keggle. That cost me about $500. You...

    esky (ice water) proof labels

I too made this glue but I've been waiting to reply until I could fully test it out. What everyone said earlier is correct. I made one batch and I have bottled over 200 with labels. I still have about 1/3 left over. I'm finding it more difficult to keep it warm with the smaller amount of glue. I...

    Homebrewers in Charleston WV?

Thursday or Friday is best for me. It takes me about 6 hours for an all grain batch. I'll post when I'm closer to Scheduling the batch. There's been a bunch of things that came up lately that are trying to get in the way. I still have to finalize the recipe as well.

    Oilly, buttery what happened?

I wanted to update this thread. I let this beer sit another week and tried it last night. The diacetyl taste is gone. This beer is really clean and crisp now! It must have been that the bottle conditioning wasn't done yet. I'm glad. I didn't want another bad batch.

    5 g carboys as secondaries

A lot of people do exactly that. Once fermentation is complete I may transfer to a secondary to dry hop or to age/clear a beer while I ferment another in the 6.5. Equipment is limited so use what you have to the best. Transferring isn't needed for great beer unless you are racking to dry hop or...

    Homebrewers in Charleston WV?

You've met the right group if you want to step up to all grain. Kevin does BIAB and I have the standard igloo cooler HLT and MT with a keggle brew pot. I'm working on making an electric HERMS heater now. I hope to test it soon and try it out next brew.

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

651 Transporting the tube it came in without the lid on it. Darn thing slipped out into the tile floor. 652 Left one laying on its side and placed more items on top and crushed it. I have three spares because these things break way too easy! I do have a brix meter on order to hopefully go...

EBay fish tank controller build using Wal-mart parts

Jeepinjeepin, That looks awesome! I hope to build two just like that. Any tricks you can share for that exact build? I see square shaped switch plate, looks like the one without the beveled edge, outlet box and anything else? Great job!
