    240V panel on 12/2 240V outlet

This made me suspect it was not a 240v circuit, which is why I suggested verifying it in the previous post.

    240V panel on 12/2 240V outlet

Ground and neutral act the same when tested with a multimeter, it provides a path to ground. Trace the circuit to your main panel and see if the third wire lands on the neutral buss or the ground buss bar. Never rely on what is at the outlet to make those assumptions. I see all kinds of mistakes...

    Batch size and kegging

If you wanted to go with sanke kegs, 1/4 barrels are 7.75 gallons. That is what I use for my 8 gallon (to fermenter) batches.

    Sanke HLT to Electric

Is your 120V on a 20 or 15 amp circuit? I can be safe or dangerous, depending on what you are willing to invest in. How much strike water? Is the vessel insulated (must be heavily insulated for your application)? Is the vessel NOT a pressure vessel (mechanically sealed lid)? Safe is using...

    Keg Washing Stand

    That is an impressive rig.

    Keg Washing Stand

For my 1/4bl serving kegs, I just have a laundry sink that I use a couple of 2x4 laid across to suspend my keg inverted. I do a warm water rinse with household hot water. Then fill sink with hot PBW and recirculate with fountain pump. Then sanitizing rinse, purge with CO2. I only remove the...

Pre Assembled RIMS controller from Amazon.com

In overly simplistic terms, a contactor is a relay (electronically controlled switch). Used to control higher voltage/amperage circuits.

    List of PJ Electrical Diagrams

I wouldn't use a 15/20 amp terminal strip to feed a 30amp circuit when a simple wire nut or splice would work. Make sure of amp ratings for any connections.

    List of PJ Electrical Diagrams

That is a barrier terminal strip. Each strip is isolated from the next. The jumpers are used to provide a conductive path to the next strip. Typical ratings are 15amp, with 20amp and 30amp being available as well. There are other ways to do the same thing, depending on how many branch feeds are...

Control Panel Layout Using CAD Software

Not sure how many others on here have access to professional 3D cad software, but I use SolidWorks and Pro-E/Creo at work. I think it would be cool if we could get a "step" (.stp) file library going of common components. You know, for the .0001% that would benefit from it.

Control Panel Layout Using CAD Software

If you are familiar with AutoCAD and need only 2d, Dassault, the makers of Catia and Solidworks have a free AutoCAD clone called Draftsight. You just have to register once a year with an email address. I use it for basic sketching now and then...

3 wire 240 outlet to spa panel wiring question

The OP is using a circuit with 30 amp overprotection at the main panel. The 50 amp GFCI is just providing ground fault protection, no current overprotection.

Trying to Decide Between HotRod Heat Stick or Kettle Mounted Element

I am moving from a 10 gallon built in 120v element to help the stove out to the HotRod in a keggle in the basement. Mine is wired in like the method shown in the electric brewery, however I never liked having the cord and element permanently attached for cleaning and storage.

    Do I need a new breaker/outlet?

All these concerns make me skeptical the conduit is an equipment ground. Too many variables for anyone to go off of one photo. Is the garage attached? Is the wiring grand fathered 3 wire? Is there a bonding screw in the buss to the panel? I am not comfortable with neutrals and grounds on the...

    Will this extention cord work?

We design industrial OEM equipment, and most of the time the components we use need to be UL or CUL (if used in Canada) approved. Not all commercial electrical components are, so this can be a challenge. Our panels and power transmission cables (since they are usually custom) and such themselves...

Prototype Previews: Hopback and Heat Stick

Placed an order for the HotRod with the 5500w element tonight. Now I need to upgrade my control box to 220v.

    Will this extention cord work?

The cable is rated for 30amps in itself. It is fine up to 140F. A little background info: An extension cord for a common use household circuit is only rated for 15amps max due to UL/NFPA standards. Those circuits are only protected by 15amp overprotection, and the outlets and connectors are as...

Fundamental 220v question on my elec. HLT/HERMS setup

I completely agree with Bobby that using a 30amp breaker in the main and using the 50amp GFCI is no doubt the most sensible and cost effective way to go in this case. You would have 30amp current overprotection and GFCI. Apparently it is all about saving a few bucks vs doing it the proper way...

Fundamental 220v question on my elec. HLT/HERMS setup

I assume the run at 30 amps is not 50ft from your spa panel. At any rate, why use wire rated for 60% of the circuit load without consideration of voltage drop and thermal loading? Fuses are cheap. Use a 30 amp fuse at the transition.

    Breakers in control panel ?

Yep, you got me. Everything I said was wrong. Cheers.
