FG too high, any saving this beer?

The mash temps for my oatmeal stout were way too high. I am aware this results in unfermentables so I am not surprised. plus, it's been less than two weeks in the fermenter. FG=1.026 I plan to wait another two weeks to see if it drops further. It's been cold in Central NY so the temp has only...

thanks. Should I add extra amounts of the other ingredient or just leave them as is? I know in the end it will be drinkable beer. Tim

    hops from 2011 still good?

I know this is off topic for a forum about growing, but..... I got 2 lbs of Cascades from 2011 (vacuum sealed & kept in a freezer) and a lb from 2012. The generous brewer said to use 2-3 times what the recipe calls for bc they are a little "weak". Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

what to do with Cascades from 2011?

I responded to a post on Craigslist for homegrown hops. A generous person practically gave me 5 lbs of hops. He said they were a weak version of Cascades. Two 1 pound packages were labeled 2011. both were dried in vacuum sealed packages. He recommended using them with 2-3 times what a recipe...

BIAB: how much trub loss for 5 gal batch?

I just bottling a Pale Ale. I had 5.25 gallons in the Better Bottle, but only 4 gallons made it to the bottling bucket. Not all of it was due to trub, but there was a lot. I know that some wort was lost bc I dry hopped with whole cascades & some was the yeast cake, but how much (trub/yeast cake)...

    my first infection?

this appears to be my first infection. been brewing all grain for just over a year & this is my eighth batch. it's a 6 gallon batch of milk stout. I split it into (3) 2 gallon buckets. one straight milk stout, one with coffee beans and one with cocoa nibs. the other 2 came out with no issues...

thanks for all the input. once I save a little more money, my next topic to figure out will be: an Advantco or Tomlinson 3500?

are tri-ply pots preferred for induction burners?

for those without tri-ply pots brewing with induction burners, if you could start again, would you purchase the tri-ply next time around? if so, how come? If I make the investment into a new pot, I don't want to wish 6-12 months down the line that I bought different equipment.

are tri-ply pots preferred for induction burners?

I am thinking about making the switch from propane to induction brewing. my budget for a kettle is $200 or less. so far, all the tri-ply pots i have looked at do not have a spigot. I've looked at some Bayou Classic pots, but the ones with the spigots do not appear to be tri-ply. am I wasting...

    Better Bottle (ported) accessories

I've been looking for a racking adapter & a high flow valve. when I find a place on-line, they don't carry the assembly rod. or vice versa: a place has the assembly rod, but not the spigot. then you add shipping & you're in excess of $50 bucks. any suggestions?

    inconsistent bottle carbonation

I've got 5 all-grain batches under my belt over the past 12 months. 2 of them had low to poor carbonation. my process is 3/4 cup of corn sugar & 16 oz of water. boil 8-10 minutes, cool then put in bottling bucket. siphon beer on top of the priming solution & let it sit for 30 minutes prior to...

washed yeast, how much to use..,

during bottling the other day, I failed to plan things well. I was going to keep some of the Chico yeast I had in the carboy for a Sierra Nevada Celebration clone I plan to brew this weekend. being tired & inpatient, I dumped all the trub & yeast into a half gallon glass bottle. I put this in...
