You know you are a new parent homebrewer when.....

I have, its awesome. Just something about it that is...man, it is heaven. :mug:

How about mason jars for starters?

I wouldn't crank that sucker down, might end up with starter juice and glass all over your kitchen. I'd just use a piece of foil if it were me, but lightly putting on the lid will be fine if you want to go that route. Keep in mind that as the CO2 builds up and escapes, it is going to...

    Cost of CO2

Thanks, Goose, I'll have to give them a call. :)

    Aerating the wort

I do a similar thing. Just tip it back and forth on the floor for about a minute or so. Never have any problems with lag time.

Love the foam. Embrace the foam...be...the foam! :rockin:

    Cost of CO2

Cost me $26 to fill a 5# tank at Airgas in San Diego. I'm getting screwed  Any of you other San Diegans know of a good place besides Airgas? (This was the Clairemont Mesa location. They didn't force me to swap though).

    One NASTY looking fermantation

That is interesting. I've never seen a krausen do that before. Gotta love those little yeasties. Just more proof that living organisms are not always predictable.

Yeah, I've done that before. End product turned out just fine.

Ale Smith beer - San Diego

I grabbed one of their Extra Pale Ales over the weekend and noticed that they bottle condition their beer. I'm trying to get a starter going with the yeast that was left in the bottle. Does anyone know what strain this might be?

    Beer not fermenting

Hahaha, I love that picture. :p

    Fermenting and bottling question

Hard to tell without a gravity reading. 7 days seems way on the low side. I let my brews sit for at least 14 days before I even think about taking a gravity reading.

    Trying my first homebrew...right now!

Congratulations. You never forget your first. And yes, the obsession just gets worse. :mug:

    Few Beginner question.

Did you turn off the heat when you added the extract? From what you explained, sounds like you didn't. That is a must to ensure you do not scorch the extract when it hits the bottom of the pan. I'd also consider implimenting the late extract addition method. Essentially, you only add...

    got my first batch

Good luck. Be sure to share your experience and update us all as to the progress of your inagural batch. I'm sure you will do fine. It really is just about yeast, water, malt and hops.
