    Beer Pint Glasses

World Market/Cost Plus stores will sometimes carry these type of pint glasses. Although, the selection varies and you have to catch them in stock. I've not looked at their website in a while, but you may find something on there. Good luck.

    Best summer beer recipe needed......

Making that exact same thing right now. Plan to throw in about 5lbs of strawberries in the secondary. Hoping it turns out well. And its for SWMBO, so I guess it better be good, or else...

Amount to boil, and boil time

Been a while since I've done an extract kit, but I'll take a stab at this. I used to steep my grains for 30 mins at 160, collect the runnings and boil up to 3 gallons (more if my stove could handle the volume) for a full 60 minutes. I remember too only adding about 1/3 of the extract...

    newb irish red ale question

How long has it been in primary? If it hasn't been 14 days, then leave it sit. At day 14, take a hydrometer reading; same at day 15 and day 16. If all 3 match (and you are on or close to your FG) then your fermentation is finished and you can move to cold crashing or even letting it sit in...

    Fermenting out the airlock

All yeasts produce a different smell to me, especially during very active fermentation. Its fine. :)

    Successful HomeBrew Weekend! Thanks, HBT!

I use Ball mason jars, pint sized. (The ones you'd use for canning)

    Batch sparge not working well

I caught this too when I first read through your process. I'd echo this advice, add the grain a little at a time to the water and stir stir stir!

    Beer Histroy Timeline

Much like Homer Simpson, I long for the day I can pull up to the pump and simultaneously fill up the car and fill up a pint for myself.

False bottom in a mash tun

+1 to thick walled silicone tubing I use the exact same thing and I've never had a problem. When I get home, I'll take a picture and upload it so you can see exactly what it is.

    I love Kolsch yeast

This is about 15 hours after pitching onto a yeast cake of Wyeast Kölsch. I've never seen krausen like that before! Lag time on this was about 60 minutes.

What's everyone brewing for National Homebrew Day?

Oops, I meant (1) 8 yr old and (2) 6 yr olds :) . But even with three, the beer does flow regularly around here.

What's everyone brewing for National Homebrew Day?

SWMBO's Strawberry Blond. Letting the kids help on this one too. They are 8 and 6 (twins), respectively. It should be an iteresting event to say the least. Thank God some of EdWort's Pale ale is on tap and ready to drink. :drunk:

    Filtering

When I rack from the carboy to the keg, I use an auto-siphon and I make sure the bottom of the siphon does not touch the yeast cake. I know you can just drop it all the way in, but I hold it in place just above the cake and tilt the carboy, slowly, towards the end of the siphon.

My first all grain! Quite a story...

Next time (if it happens again) save that extra 2 qts of good wort and split it into (2) 1 gal freezer bags. Instant wort for your starter the next time you brew. (I also enjoyed reading through your story. Well done)
