    Grounded Brewing Kettle sale.

I believe the diptube was from Grounded. I bought the kettle/basket package they were selling last year. It came with 3 butterfly valves, a basket, a TC diptube and the gaskets and clamps. They also sold a package with a controller but I already had the cube.

    Grounded Brewing Kettle sale.

@Spikybits I've been using this kettle for several months now. What I've found that works the best for me is to put a TC tee on the drain port. I connect one end of the straight run to the kettle and a TC valve to the other end of the straight run. I position the tee line to point upwards...

Grounded Brewing Technologies - 240V eBIAB System

I punched a hole in the lid and recirculated that way. My first batch, I recirced through the top tangential port and I got a buildup of fine particles on the side of the basket. I figured if I recirced through the lid, those particles would have a better chance of staying inside the basket or...

    purging kegs

I trimmed my gas dip tube super short, maybe 0.5" if that. I set the keg on its side with the gas post at the top and fill it through the liquid post while venting from the gas post into a bucket. When liquid starts coming out of the gas post, stop the flow and invert the keg to free any...

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I've been wondering about this. How long did you let it ferment? Did you transfer off the yeast and let it settle? If so, how long did it take? What sort of attenuation did you get?

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I fermented at 85F for 7 days then crashed to 42F, racked off the yeast, then dry hopped at room temp for 5 days.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I believe I did 150:150 Cl:SO4 Nothing unusual in the grist Mashed at 152F for 60 minutes My three primary objectives were to 1) give kveik a shot, 2) skip the biotransformation addition and 3) transfer off the yeast before dry hopping. I wanted to see if I could still make a decent NEIPA...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Here's my latest iteration. I used Hornindal and fermented at 85F for 7 days. No dry hopping or spunding at all during the fermentation. After fermentation, I slowly crashed for I think 5 days down to about 42F. Then pressure transferred into a purged keg with dry hops already in it. I let...

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

Here's my NEIPA with Hornindal. 8oz of Citra and 8oz of Galaxy. Lots of peach in the aroma. Not a ton of citrus. It came out very smooth and basically no bitterness. I fermented at 85F for 7 days before crashing. It finished at 1.0095 but you wouldn't be able to tell from the mouthfeel...

Can I put my BIAB directly on the heating element?

The brewhardware 14.75 in a 15.75 works well. That's my configuration. Take up any slack in your bag on the outside of the kettle and you are good. And you can slide the false bottom to cover all of the element if you are worried. The foot in the middle is not necessary. It will hold the...

Can I put my BIAB directly on the heating element?

Can you fit a false bottom on top of your element? That's what I do. I have a ripple ULWD 5500W element and put a false bottom on top of it to keep the bag of the element during the mash. I recirculate during the mash and it holds the temp within +/- 1F.

@couchsending Strata is back on at YVH. Plenty of it as of now (266 1# bags)

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

How old was the yeast? I pitched a two 2 month old packs on a Saturday and held it at 85F for the entire fermentation. No starter. I didn't see any airlock activity until maybe 24 hours after pitching. I was worried since a lot of people say they see activity within a few hours. Sunday...

Fermentation mini-fridge list (brand and model)?

This is what I use. It's a kegerator fridge but you can leave the plug on the top in for fermenting. It holds 2 cornies plus a CO2 tank or a 1/2 barrel plus a CO2 tank. I ferment in a pony keg (short 1/4 barrel) and it works perfectly. It doesn't have door shelving...

    FOUND!!! X331 Hops (Strata)

@couchsending YVH often restocks the hot hops a little while after the initial round sells out. They did that with Galaxy this year. Maybe they package some and sell those, then package more and sell, etc.? I'd check back periodically if you are looking for them.

    FOUND!!! X331 Hops (Strata)

They sold out of pounders really quick and the half pounders sold out less than an hour later. When the pounders sold out, there were about 65 half pound bags left and they were selling pretty briskly. After I put in my order, there were only about 50 left.

    FOUND!!! X331 Hops (Strata)

Strata is legit. I made a NEIPA with it 2 years ago (first year I think it was available to homebrewers) and it turned out great. Paired it with Citra. People said it tasted like liquid marijuana. One of my better batches I think. I haven't brewed with this year's crop yet. Order 4 8oz...
