Great brew day with the B+. I hit 70% efficiency with a 12 lb grain bill into 6.9 gallons of total water volume. Same process as before, great crush, 5.2 mash stabilizer, two mash bags, 75 min mash at 150 and a 45 min sparge at 168. I trusted the software to target me for a 1.058 post boil OG...

    Brewing with 120V(20A & 15A) Questions

Have you considered a Robobrew v3 or the new mash and boil? It's a pretty good "bang for your buck" option and would work with your electric setup and 5 gallon needs. You can step mash and recirculate. If this product existed 10 years ago I never would have built my own 5 gallon system. If...

    Brewie

Sorry to hear. Are the elements heating at all? There was a 99% boil problem with the original Brewie that was fixed by a software update. What version of the software comes up on your startup? If the elements are not firing, my guess is a switching problem. I don't think the elements would...

    HERMS system question???

1.5 is certainly acceptable but I keep thinking your false bottom is too high. I tested all sorts of false bottoms from braids to flat to domed. In my experience the domed one gave me the best results from an operational and an efficiency standpoint. Grains should not really be making it past...

    Brewie

Thanks for the pics, they are great. Pumps, valves, two SSRs, plate chiller, motherboard, cool stuff. Nice to see some bits that I can replace when the warranty runs out, or if Brewie goes under. I see a kink in one of your blue water lines. I would see if you could massage that one out at...

I got the invite for the social club today and it is being run on facebook. That's a no go for me and I let them know there was no way I was joining facebook. Marcel actually replied and said he understood. The grain cage is still in prototype testing based on the last email I got from them...

    Brewie

My personal opinion, but I don't see another version coming until they recoup quite a bit more sales. They told me they are designing a removable mesh basket (like the Robobrew malt pipe) as an add on now. That will help with efficiency and clean up. It will also do away with the grain bags...

    Brewie

My saga has been detailed in this thread, many broken machines, even my first B+ failed. My latest B+ has worked perfectly for two brews. When it works, the machine is a wonder. When it fails, it fails epically. So I give it a very half-hearted recommendation. For what it is worth, Brewie...

Interesting product, thanks for posting. I have a Brewie+, a Robobrew v3 and a Vessi, might as well add this one to the mix. I like people trying to push the edge of the envelope. The steam hops, no true boil (only hits 150F), and all in one machine including temp controlled fermentation, are...

    Robobrew Immersion Chiller

Same experience with mine. It certainly could be faster but I don't mind it all that much because I rest my hop spider on it and let the hops drain during the cooling. As mentioned above, running the pump helps quite a bit. Once I hit 100F, I take the hose and splash the wort on the upper...

I wouldn't mess with any wiring. It looks like a simple fuse on a block. I wouldn't want it external in the event water/wort would hit it and cause a short.

    HERMS system- temp fluctuating

+1 to everything augie mentions. Stratification in the HLT can occur and I used a small march pump to recirc my HLT water during the mash.

    HERMS system- temp fluctuating

Where is your thermocouple mounted? It should be on the wort out of your herms coil. That may be a contributing factor. Is your system 3 vessels? You could heat your strike water in your BK and not your HLT and heat your HLT water at the same time. That would also help.

    Brewie

Ah my good friend Mate! Hah. Glad to hear it was the fuse, hopefully that is the only problem. I would be psyched if that was the only problem and more than willing to open it up. Nice to see the pumps and the plate chiller in those pics. It is very interesting to see them come up with a...

    HERMS system- temp fluctuating

Mine was a 10g megapot and the reflectix did help. There are certainly other variables to consider, mash ratio, how many watts are you using, temp of your basement, temp of the brew stand, etc.

    HERMS system- temp fluctuating

What are you using for a MLT? Is it insulated? If not, you can put reflectix on it. That helps quite a bit in my experience.

    HERMS system question???

If you have a gallon below your false bottom, you may want to try a different style false bottom. I would want more of that mash volume in contact with my grains. I would also try a thinner mash next time [edit: I just saw you calc 1.25 but then add a gallon for below the FB? so what is your...

    Brewie

Still under warranty for sure so it will be replaced. I would push for a B+ replacement. I think morebeer is the only place that still has a stock of originals. I don’t think brewie has any new original ones left, just refurb original units and the B+.
  19. HarkinBanks

    Brewie

Bummer man but not unexpected with the original units. They are junk. How long have you had the unit?
  20. HarkinBanks

    Brewie

Ugh. Original or B+? Either way it sounds like it is dead. Likely an internal fuse blew. I would do a manual siphon to a 5 gal pot and boil on your stovetop. Sorry to hear about this.
