    Hilarious Misinformation

Wow. Call them on it. Then tell then to send you to the cicerone program.

    100% homegrown

Very true. Is the yellow in a low spot where water collects?
  3. F

    100% homegrown

The yellow barley could be anything but most likely lack of N or the virus. Hard to tell the difference. Viruses normally don't follow a straight line like I see in your pictures. You do need about 150lb of total N per acre, so your rates seem low unless there was a bunch of N in the soil...

    What went wrong?

How long in the fermenter? You could take another measurement.
  5. F

    What went wrong?

All grain or extract? Top up water? Sometimes the preboil is not mixed enough and the measurement is off.

    Doomsday preppers anyone???

I raise wheat and always leave a couple thousand pounds in the bin. That will feed my family for a long time. Guns are also a given on the farm. Many of my ancestors (Germans farming in Russia) starved when the Russian government took their crop. While I'm not really worried about such a thing...

    final gravity question

Leave them at room temp until they carbonate to the level you want (check a few) then put them in the frig. The cold will stop most yeast activity and limit the risk of bottle bombs. If they are full right to the top then I would imagine the risk of bomb would be higher. Also just because the...

    New homebrew laws in Wisconsin

Yes that should have been your first post. Your lack of clarity has created all the disinformation on this thread, so much so I don't really believe anything you say. HAHA funny man. From your first post you made this about politics. What a joke. I am unsubscribing from this thread.

    New homebrew laws in Wisconsin

HOLD ON EVERYONE....... Where did the info about only 2 meeting and needing to fill out form come from? I just read the house and senate bills and nothing is mentioned about meeting restrictions and filling out forms. They only talk about how homebrewers are exempt from all regulations/tax as...

    New homebrew laws in Wisconsin

Wow what a tangled mess. Are you saying it is better to leave things as is where it is illegal but the locals likely won't enforce? Is that better then a restrictive law that makes things legal? Maybe reject this law hoping the locals don't enforce and go for a better law later? Didn't I see...

    New homebrew laws in Wisconsin

Great comments. I feel for you guys. I hope someday government is shrunk so small homebrewing is the last thing they have time to bother with. Keep up the fight to get the stupid clauses removed. Hopefully you don't have to decide between a restrictive law and leaving it as is with no events...

    New homebrew laws in Wisconsin

Agreed this one is scary, but again right now now competition and events are illegal. Better to have to fill out a form then have no event at all. Grinder12000 call your representative and ask this clause to be removed.

    New homebrew laws in Wisconsin

I would like all those rules be even more broad, but the fact remains that transportation and competitions are illegal right now. At least this law allows it again. There is no permit need. They mean the law permits or allows home brewing. The 100gal per person or 200 per house hold is...

    Dry Hopping A Dry Rye

Permo, how did the recipe turn out? From their web page they use 2-row, rye malt, honey malt, oats, honey, Magnum, and Tettnager http://www.madisonriverbrewing.com/ourbrews/salmon-fly-honey-rye My cousin loves this beer and asked me to brew a clone for his wedding. I sent an email to the...

    New homebrew laws in Wisconsin

Lets get the facts straight. The is no new law to restrict homebrewing. For some reason the Wisconsin Department of Revenue reinterpreted existing law making homebrew transportation and competitions illegal. It is Republican State Sen. Michael Ellis who has introduced a bill to put things back...

    low final gravity

Like other have said try getting the existing yeast to wake up by warming them up (set the carboy near a heater vent) and giving them a swirl. If that fails you can try pitching a very active yeast starter made with alcohol tolerant yeast and keep the carboy warm. If that fails you are out of...

    Brewpot too small!

I'm no expert, but in addition to extraction of hop oils we also boil to drive off unwanted volatile compounds and to coagulate unwanted proteins. This wouldn't happen as much in the portion you added later. So the flavor would likely change a bit.

    Keggle question

False bottoms are typically for a converted keg being used as a mash tun. I don't see the need for them in a boil kettle. The standard ones aren't fine enough to filter out pellet hops. But may be I'm missing something.

    When is primary fermentation over?

Recipes and beer smith will tell you an expected final SG, but it is possible for beers to go much lower then expected. Therefore it is best to wait until the SG stays steady for a few days. Or as many of us do, just wait a few weeks then you can be relatively sure it is done.

    BIAB OG too low...ideas please

Great pictures. I'm sure beer smith has DME and I bet it has molasses. Just add them to the recipe and adjust the amounts until you get the OG you want.
