    Name My Actual Farm

As some may know I am an actually wheat and barley farmer. I don't want to get into any politics, but one thing that is common is for farmers to incorporate (tax savings, liability, etc). I have grown my farm to be big enough to justify incorporating. The only thing that is preventing me from...

    Great falls brew club

The FB page works for me. I'm still interested is a GF club. Anyone malt? Bowser said they will brew a "home" batch if I can malt 400lbs of my barley.

    McMaster Keg O-Ring List

I ordered from Amazon, but the 9262k263 (3mm Wide x 10mm ID) from McMaster in your link above is what I would use.

    Malting in Montana

Haven't heard of any 6-row, but I haven't really asked around. I'll grow some if you ever need. Let me know how to help your Malting start up. Need water and heat, so would likely have to build near natural gas. Waste water could also be an issue. Want to move? I know the perfect area near...

    Malting in Montana

Welcome. Been wanting to malt myself. I think a micro malt plant in Montana would do really well and could supply all our great brewers. If I wasn't already too busy on the farm I would be looking into a startup. Anyways let me know if you need some grain.

    McMaster Keg O-Ring List

cwi, when you wrote "Not to mention getting assaulted by the locking mechanism", I couldn't stop laughing as you take minor issues to such an absurd level. I thought it would be fun to mess with you, but I have better things to do then continue this silly discussion. You win. Although I have a...

    McMaster Keg O-Ring List

I did finally try the 10mm (ID) x 3mm oring on my pin locks. Yes cwi I used Buna. I had to stretch them a bit more then I like, but they seem to seal very well. When placing the QD you can feel how it is a tighter fit than the #111 or #112 orings. I'll be using them from now on and will report...

    McMaster Keg O-Ring List

If you have ever dealt with hydraulic cylinders on farm equipment you know they are far from a fine polish surface (damn dirt and rocks). Again even with polish, alignment, and lube there is no comparison between a typical linear dynamic seal that may see 1000 two foot long cycles per day (at...

    McMaster Keg O-Ring List

I wouldn't really consider the post oring of a corny keg to be a dynamic seal. When orings are specified for dynamic seals they usually mean seals that spin 24/7 or slide repeatedly back and forth like in hydraulic cylinders. The occasional 1/2" that an oring slides in a keg post connector...

    Basement Electric Brewery

If you have the room skip the expensive stainless sink and use a cheap used bathtub. Can't have a sink that is too big for cleaning pots.

Beer line tests & solution to the "plastic" taste

The problem I have with flaring with a needle nose pliers is that it creates a tapered flare. I used to work for a company that would flare PFA and PVDF. They used a tool that would create a square flare. Wonder if it would work for the BevSeal...

    Cooler Mash Tun Problem

If your outlet is 2" up you will leave 2" of liquid on the bottom. Not the end of the world especially if you batch sparge. The 2" you leave after the first runnings will be the most valuable, but you will get most of that when stirring during the first batch. Do a batch or two then tip the...

    Drill for grain mill

Who needs a built in lock. Maybe this is just my inner redneck, but I use baling wire and/or duct tape to hold the trigger. Keep twisting the wire until you get the speed you want.

    Northern Brewer

Flat Rate shipping has always seemed like a trick to me as it just meant they raised prices to cover the true cost. Brew gear should cost what it costs and shipping should cost what is costs.

What piece do I need? Where can I find?

What you need is a nipple. I think you have a 1/2". The side of the valve should say the size. Take it off. Measure the total length and order one a bit longer.

    Not enough in fermenter

The boil off rate won't be any different as long as you are using the same pot. If you are hitting your numbers and getting the efficiency you want then you need more grain.

    McMaster Keg O-Ring List

Great info P-J. Testing the lid without a oring is a good idea. I've had many lids that I couldn't even get to fit right with no oring. Seems the oval shape of the lid and keg rim often don't match. Don't know if they are manufactured different or if the keg rim deformations over time...

    McMaster Keg O-Ring List

A leaky lid is usually due to a bent lid or keg rim. A flat surface and a hammer can straighten a lid. Keg rims are tricky but a hammer, a flat punch, and some patience can fix most leaks.
