    Want to start kegging but...

I bought the 4 keg system from Midwest. It's not much more $ than what you're looking at. There is only one regulator though. There is a manifold with off/on valves for all four kegs. Some of the crimp on hose clamps leaked on mine. So, I replaced all of them with worm clamps, no big deal...

    Iodine testing...

That is exactly what I bought, basically a generic betadine. $6 and some change. I just didn't know if it would work until I did the test that Kaiser suggested. It does work, drops in the flour solution immediately turns dark purple/black. I went in looking for the little bottle of iodine that...

    2nd All-grain.... yes more lessons

I did my second ever all grain a few days ago and did it like The Pol is talking about. I got the idea from HERE. According to Beersmith I should have hit 1.035 og (@ 75%). Pre boil was 1.036 and in the fermentor just before pitching it was 1.034. I even screwed it up because I forgot about...

    Iodine testing...

Ok, sorry my bad. I did the test with flour and it worked. So the sample that I took from my MLT yesterday was fully converted. Beersmith said I should have gotten 1.035 OG and I got 1.034 and this was my second ever all grain so I am pleased. That was even after having to add a half gallon...

Cooling the Wort - Anyone thought about Liquid Nitrogen

OK, you are talking about chunking dry ice directly into wort or beer...not a good idea. Sorry, I missed that little bit of info. I quess I just got caught up on the memories of that 1979 kegger....

Cooling the Wort - Anyone thought about Liquid Nitrogen

Today I cooled 4.5 gallons (should have been 5, but I forgot about the 90 min boil and had already dumped my grains) of wort from full boil to less than 80 degrees in 35 minutes, in my kitchen sink with 3 bags of ice and a some cold water and A Lot of stirring. No chiller or pre-chiller. Your...

    First all grain

Oh Yea, I know what you mean...I got my basic set up and started adding things, bottle tree, etc. Also was buying "expensive" beer so I could reuse the bottles and to try different beers, six pack a day. Then wound up buying a four keg set up including fridge before my first batch was even ready...

    Iodine testing...

I went to wal-mart today to get some iodine to test conversion with and they didn't have any. The pharmacist told me they didn't sell it any more because of meth dummies or some such crap. So I got something that is basically a generic betadine solution. When I tested I didn't see purple...I...

    noob questions

I have several two quart jars full of apple juice that my maw-in-law made for my wife to make jelly with. Well, we have enough jelly for several years and I want to make hard cider with the juice. It is still pretty and hasn’t turned dark, but there is a Lot of pulp in the bottom of the jars...

    Glue Manifold?

I made a cpvc manifold for my 5 gal cooler and the first time I used it I didn't glue it together. It worked out just fine, but I was real nervous everytime I stirred the mash. I am planning to use it again today and I am thinking about gluing it first. Do ya'll just use regular pvc glue and...

    Easy All Grain?

Wouldn't this method be ok to do an all grain brew? I don't see what the difference would be by using a cooler with slotted or drilled pipe, except it might be easier to control temps with a cooler...is that all? Am I missing something?
