    Keg purging with active fermentation

I suggest you read through the brilliant post from @doug293cz to see how each bubble of CO2 produced affects things Maths This is the equation that all this centers on: Final O2 Conc = 210000 ppm * ((Headspace volume L - 0.0001 L) / Headspace volume L)^ (Liters of CO2 produced / .0001 L)...

    Keg purging with active fermentation

Here's how I understand things... The fermentation only produces a certain amount of CO2 which you can use to displace stuff in the headspace. If that headspace is just air then the headspace contains roughly 20% O2 and the CO2 from fermentation ends up diluting the headspace due to how gases...

    Keg purging with active fermentation

Based on the maths from @doug293cz you'd be left with the following O2 in the headspace (fermenter and kegs). This is assuming a 7g fermenter with 5g of 1.060 wort in it and an estimated FG of 1.012 7g headspace: 1.4 ppb O2 12g headspace: 3511 ppb O2 My approach when using a separate dry hop...

FYI looks like YVH has '22 Nectaron in stock.

    Fermenting in a corny keg?

Here's my current process for fermentation keg + dry hop keg + serving keg: 1) Ferment as normal with fermentation keg blowing off into bucket of starsan until the headspace in fermentation keg is at target O2 level. I created a spreadsheet to help me calculate the gravity at which this...

    Fermenting in a corny keg?

I wonder if it would be any better to purge the empty dry hop and serving kegs in parallel instead of serially. My guess is that it would take less fermentation CO2 to purge both kegs when done in parallel but that's just a hunch.

    Spike Solo Owner's Thread

Would you mind attaching a pic of your custom basket? I'm also going the route of ditching the Spike basket and was planning on the whole false bottom + brewbag... Never even considered a different basket.

    Anvil Foundry 6.5 threads,all things 6.5

Here is my current AF 6.5 setup which I'm really enjoying: - EZ clean bulkhead w/ push in diptube - Blichmann linear flow valve - Anvil TC adapter for the lid - TC BLQD to FNPT adapter - Locline for mash recirculation - Brew bag 400um - Trubtrapper - Spincycle overboard for whirlpool With...

    Keg purging with active fermentation

Here's a spreadsheet I made based on the post by @doug293cz. I decided to explore different purging schemes for my smaller batch sizes as well as using a separate vessel for dry hopping. Calculations are made for the following schemes: - Purge headspace using only fermentation CO2. Assumes...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Looks very similar to the Verdant recipe for Even Sharks Need Water. When I tried this recipe out the color was spot on with what the OP was striving for. Brewfather had this at 3.9 SRM.

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Ahh I remember watching a couple of your videos! Not sure if you brew with things like wheat or malted oat but if you do how do you crush them? I feel like .038" is too wide for some of that stuff. Very cool foundry setup you've got there. Like you, I've been using a "holding vessel" w/ the...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Out of curiosity what's your crush size these days and are you conditioning your malt? Currently I use .03" on my 2 roller mill along with conditioned malt. This has been working fairly well (no rice hulls and no stuck mashes) for me but I've been contemplating going tighter to .025". Any...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

This bag was from YVH probably in April, I just haven't got around to doing anything with it. I was kinda tempted to do a 100% hazy pale ale with it but I've got so many frozen hops to use I thought why not see what others have combined it with.

Anybody have a favorite hop combo with Nectaron? How much hot/cold side? I've got 8oz of it to use for my next batch :)
