    Adding Bourbon to kegged beer

No, it will work fine. I do it with a bourbon oaked amber and it works great. I soak 1oz toasted oak chips in 4-5oz bourbon on brew day and let it sit till the beer is kegged. I add the oak chips in a bag and dump the now nearly black bourbon in and it tastes great after a week. I let it sit the...

    85% efficiency and recipe tweaking

I would think you would want to reduce your base malt to hit the gravity your recipe is designed to make. do you use recipe design software? I highly recommend Beersmith 2.0. you can get a free trial version and see if you like it. (You Will) also Mac compatible

Whens the last time you funneled a beer?

Not since college, but I did do a bottle of cheap white wine through one. At my Alma mater Texas A&M when you get your Aggie ring you drop it in a pitcher of beer and chug it down and the ring slides into your mouth. I beat out my 6 best friends with a rather impressive 17 second chug. Anything...

    question about burst carbing

No, I don't. I usually put it on 30psi for a few days and give it a little rock 2 or 3 times a day then turn it down to serving pressure before it over carbs.

    Question about taste

I assume you have fermentation temps under control, if not i would think it is a fermentation issue. Hows is your water? Are you treating it. Is it a "hop bitterness bite" from too much sulfates? Did you only notice it after going all grain? If it is a grain related astringency maybe you should...

Tell of your past brewer self.

It will be cheaper to buy a freezer and temp control than try to keep the A/C running at 70 when it is 105F out side. And your beers are actually still fermenting at ~75F wort temp.

DIY 2 stage, single pass beer clarity filter on the cheap

They also have these 100 micron filter bags that fit the 10" housings. I'm thinking you could fill the bag with hops and use it as a Randal. the bag come in micron ranges from 50-800. I'm not sure what would work best. I will put a link to the 100 micron bag is anyone is interested. About 10...

DIY 2 stage, single pass beer clarity filter on the cheap

What would happen if I just used a single filter with the 1 micron filter? Would it clog too quickly? The links you posted indicate that this is how they do it. I would be more likely to do this if if I only needed 1 filter housing and 1 filter for each transfer. And because they are disposable...

    Oxi or pbw?

I have used both and tend to use the Oxy free now because its cheap and I can have the SWMBO pick it up at the Store. janivar123 is correct about the deposits that oxy will leave if you let it sit longer that ~24hr. I don't do that anymore after having a scale form inside one of my Kegs. Star...

How to Adjust for False Bottom

"I thought about just adding an extra gallon of water to my strike (so it sits at the bottom) but any tips from people who use a pot with a mash tun for a false bottom would be helpful." You're on the right track. Measure how much sits under your false bottom(N) and take that into account (add...

    got my keg few questions

I can only assume by your grammar that you have not yet graduated high-school, and therefore are too young to brew. I'm just kidding, but if you take the time to proofread your post you will have more luck receiving thoughtful replies. If you wish to prime your keg, then yes, it will take...

Goin Rogue - Help me formulate a new recipe

I brewed a blond on the 4th of July and it is good and crystal clear. I used used half and half 2-row and Maris Otter for the base and a pound of Victory mashed low (148F? can't remember). I hopped with 1oz liberty @ 60min and 1oz liberty at 15min for about 20 IBU. I had the hops left over from...
