Possible Recipe - Hopworks IPA Clone

I have a hefe on deck next, but after that I'm going to make this (xmas time). I might add one more specialty grain though, .5# of carahell since it uses pilsner instead of 2 row for the base malt and I'm going to alter the hops & schedule.

    Most aggressive yeast strain?

Wyeast 3725-PC Bier de Garde Yeast was the craziest yeast I have used. It was insane, 88% AA. Finished in only a couple of days from 1.084! I cant remember if I used a starter or not, but if I did it was only a 1 day, 1 liter. Info: Wyeast 3725-PC Bier de Garde Yeast Beer Styles...

Extract Brewing vs Commercial off flavors

Old thread, but I found my extract brews improved in quality from several important factors. I started using filtered water and I started adding the extract at the last 15 min of the boil (w/a steeping mash prior). I found liquid extract to be a total fail on several occasions adding off...

Bump. I had this beer in Hawaii and I'm in love. Anyone figure out the clone for this? Also what creates that distinctive taste??

    Too early to keg ?

In your process are you racking the yeast cake into the keg too? Or stopping right before the yeast cake?

    Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier Clone???

Ive seen more recipies with 1oz at 60 min vs the hop split above. The 1oz at 60 makes more sense to me because the original has no hop taste or hop aroma. Ive made this 3 times, with different %'s of bavarian pils & bav wheat DME. Im doing the all grain version in a couple weeks. I think the...

Possible Recipe - Hopworks IPA Clone

    Ya 36 IBU.. Going to need 1oz of magnum for 70 IBU with that recipe (77 actually). If it was a typo and he meant 0.75 that would be 63 IBU. PS they use whole hops, been there, :) 16.0 % 1.00 Magnum Whole/Plug 14.5 14.5 60 0.251 54.5 8.0 % 0.50 Cascade Whole/Plug 6.6 3.3 15 0.124 6.1...

    Extract Hef recipe wanted

I use Briess malts. The wheat is 65% wheat, 35% base malt IIRC. Honestly you cant go wrong with 100% wheat or with the pilsen mix IMO.

    IBU Values and Partial Boils

I find that the steeping grains taste penetration is also effected by the lack of the full boil.

    Extract Hef recipe wanted

There are some good recipies here in this thread. My feedback is DONT use any malt extract other than wheat and pilsen. Using regular malts even in small quantities will not produce the same beer style. Second I prefer the weihenstephaner yeast as I find it finishes cleaner and is easy...

    California Common- Secondary Fermentation?

I added the gelatin. But overall I wasnt a fan of the california common yeast, it has a bit of vegtable taste from the yeast to it after sitting for a while. We added apricot which made it better, but in the end the kolsh ale is much better IMO to get thal lager style despite its an ale...

Making a Steam Hefe! Need some advice.

kegged it today after a month of fermenting. Even with a starter it still only reached the 68%AA out of 67-71. May be I should have left it longer... But I like the portion of the beer where it was more yeasty (closer to the bottom of the fermentor), as the yeast has a nice fruity appeal. My...

    California Common- Secondary Fermentation?

I'm brewing right now with the 2112. It's been almost 3 weeks. I have a sealed single stage fermenter and debating 3 things as I have never secondaried yet as all my beers have not been lagers and never felt the need to especially since my fermenter is sealed. It's been a 59-62 degrees. 1. I...

Making a Steam Hefe! Need some advice.

Ok, I think your on to something. I think my recipe is sound with the addition of the crystal malt as you suggested, I'll just follow the brewing directions below with my recipe and the added crystal, and just trim the 75 min to a 60 after bitter hops. Does that sound good? I know I'm...
