    gonna build a big one

I'm designing a brewing setup using 2" square A36 tubing. My design totalled about 72 feet in steel. I am looking at ordering 9 x 8' pieces from onlinemetals.com. The total for that order, including regular shipping, is $429. Does that sound reasonable? I've read a couple places that buying...

What has two thumbs and is going pro?

Hi Sigafoos, Goodluck with your brewing endeavor!!! I'm working with a couple partners to open a tiny brewery and farm, and we just sent in our paperwork to establish our LLC!! Hooray! It's my responsibility to get the psychobrew system, or build one that is capable of the same brewing...

what does wyeast 2206 starter smell like

That's true, sour is usually lactobacillus. But, I read that yeast autolysis can cause a sour vinegar like taste. I did freeze half of the first starter. The step up starter smells fine and has a nice looking krausen on it

what does wyeast 2206 starter smell like

What does a starter of 2206 (bavarian lager) usually smell like? Mine smelled sulfury and sour. I tasted it and it tasted sour. Trying to figure out of it's infected. I'm brewing a doppelbock this Saturday, so I'm in the process of making a huge starter. I started with a 2206 activator and...

    ingredient purchase screwups

FFFFFF. Son of a *****. Has anyone ever went to a homebrew store and hour away because you didn't want to wait on shipping, then when you place your order they don't have the right hop and you end up getting a "substitute" that's nothing close to the correct one? I did just that today. I...

mash. Thanks. So you mean you mill your grains a bit finer?

    sabco system efficiency

Can anyone tell me what the efficiency is for the sabco brewmagic system? I'm trying to figure out the cost of a 10 gallon batch with that system

    wtb: need a mill

I'm looking for a good grain mill. I'd prefer something like a Barley Crusher w/ a 15 lb hopper, but any good grain mill that is in good condition and is cheaper than buying new may do. Post anything you have to the thread. or email me... [email protected]

    love control models

right on... thanks guys. Budzu, do you have a suggestion on the specific type/brand of probe to use? Can probably find one on the same website right?

    love control models

I want to start building a single tier automated system this summer, so I've been reading and researching different threads on these builds for awhile. I can't seem to figure out which model love controller is normally used. There isn't a very good description on the website of what the...

    Mounted therminator, how to sanitize

you get the HEX dry enough just by blowing through it? I did that a few times but it seems like it wouldn't all come out. If I shake it it can hear a little water sloshing around in it.

    Mounted therminator, how to sanitize

that's interesting. I teach high school chemistry, so I know nitric acid is incredibly corrosive to metals, but I didn't know very dilute solution would still eat at SS. You use acid 5 to clean or sanitize or what? I just use pbw for cleaning, rinse with hot water and turn my keggle upside...

    Mounted therminator, how to sanitize

I would want to sanitize with a diluted acid 5 solution after cleaning to keep the plates in an acidic condition, just as wayne said. If their is an acidic layer on the plates while you're not using it, there will be less chance of some sort of bacteria starting to grow. I would want to...

    Mounted therminator, how to sanitize

I think I may get some of that acid 5 or acid1. and I guess it would be better to recirculate a sanitizer through it before using it instead of using hot wort. I use iodophor though. If I were to rinse it with acid 5 after using it and store it in that condition, then run an iodophor solution...

    Mounted therminator, how to sanitize

wayne, I just started using an HE and I was wondering what type of acid solution you use. Only thing I could think of that would be readily available and somewhat cheap would be vinegar and water. I pretty much clean my chiller the same way you do after using it. I backflush with water...

    Never Use Pbw Again!!

a guy I know swears by arm and hammer super washing soda. I couldn't find any info on the box about what is in it, but he says it works great and is cheap. Does anyone know anything about it?

kegerator I may buy... good deal?

yes I did end up doing that. and I finally got it on. Hahaha then I realized that I forgot to put clamps on the line. So now I have to take one end off and do it again. I got my perlick faucet for it today, and I'm a bit confused by what some of the descriptions on web sites say. I got the...

sorry to ask, but couldn't find a thread. Yeast in keg

yes that is a good idea bout the lager. I figured I could rig up some kind of an airlock. So you only put the additional yeast into the keg for secondary fermentation purposes? I've read a few times in books that bottle conditioned beer lasts longer than filitered and artificially carbed...

kegerator I may buy... good deal?

So I did go and pick up that kegerator.... what a steal. The thing is in great condition and I think I may be able to get 3 cornys in it. I traded the sanke tapper to a friend for some fittings for my keggles and just put some QDs for ball locks on. the tank hasn't been used since 2003... does...

sorry to ask, but couldn't find a thread. Yeast in keg

So you transfer some yeast intentionally? that is an interesting idea if you don't have to worry about continuously picking up yeast. I heard from a few people that homebrew keg beer spoils quite a bit faster than bottled beer because there isn't a least layer at the bottom stabilizing the beer...
