Metzen's Mini Fridge Glycol Chiller Conversion

Also, I set the analog thermostat of the fridge to its coldest setting. The controller turns the fridge on or off to maintain the set temperature of the glycol solution. My controller has a delay feature to reduce the cycling of the fridge's compressor on and off (ie it makes sure the fridge is...

Metzen's Mini Fridge Glycol Chiller Conversion

I built a controller using the CraftBeerPi software to control the temp of the glycol solution and the fermenter. I have a temp probe in the glycol bath. I run the wire of the probe through a slit in the rubber door threshold. I set the glycol temp to 12 degrees below the target temp of my...

Metzen's Mini Fridge Glycol Chiller Conversion

My setup uses 1/3 glycol and the rest distilled water. Agree you should limit the glycol.

Idea for a glycol chiller using mini fridge

You can do it for smaller batch sizes. I’ve been able to cold crash one 5 gallon batch at a time down to high 30s F. I documented my build at the link below. Its exactly what you are describing. A few others have also done it and shared their findings in the thread...

Metzen's Mini Fridge Glycol Chiller Conversion

I would definitely recommend it for smaller batch sizes as described earlier in the thread. It's still working well just as it did when it was built. I've run about 8 batches through it since I started this thread. The hardest piece to obtain was a glycol reservoir large enough to fit the...

Help needed, how to use stout conical fermenter?

Do you have a photo of these gauges? There shouldn’t be anything unique to using a Stout conical versus other conicals which is why it doesn’t come with a manual. Sounds like you just need help understanding the parts. Share some photos of the unit or the parts and folks may be able to help you.

Illinois SOLD - Stout 7 Gallon Conical Fermenter with Thermowell and Chilling Coil

Used once and in like-new condition. With our second child just arriving, I am not getting enough use out of it and it’s taking up space. Sad day. Nice piece of kit though! Passivated stainless, all sanitary welded ports, valves included, ready out of the box for hookup to a temp...

    Free console enclosure

I'm interested. This looks perfect for the new touchscreen controller I'm building for my eBIAB kit. I've been assembling pieces but have yet to find an appropriate enclosure. I just picked up a second kettle and am looking to design a controller that will flexibly run both my current single...

    Inkbird IPB-16 PID Controller Inquiry

I have another unit of the same model that works fine with the same temp probes. I tried reconfiguring the smoothing, etc but it had no effect. I think it was just that unit.

    Inkbird IPB-16 PID Controller Inquiry

I never got it working correctly. I ultimately harvested it for parts for my CBPi driven controller. You didn’t get mine but I’d still return it.

Metzen's Mini Fridge Glycol Chiller Conversion

Very cool and glad to hear this is working well for you. Looks like a great setup. As noted in my original post, we have another little one on the way and I haven’t been able to brew this winter. I’ll post an update soon on some minor changes to my system and answer some of the questions that...

Brew Bucket owners - What Mini Fridge are you using ?

I completed the conversion today. Long story short, it’s quite easy to convert to a kegerator - no major obstacles to avoid based on where I positioned the tower. I’ll write up the specs and post them in the next day or so.

Metzen's Mini Fridge Glycol Chiller Conversion

I’m using the pump from my FTSs cooling unit. It is the equivalent of a submersible aquarium pump.

Brew Bucket owners - What Mini Fridge are you using ?

Anyone know if the top of the Tramontina is free of obstructions to cut a hole for a tap? I no longer need it for my bucket and instead would like to convert it into a kegerator. The heat clearly dissipates from the sides but not sure if there is wiring or something else running through the top.

Condo Brewing V2 - Custom eBIAB Build Thread (120V)

The whirlpool isn’t very effective. I am going to swap the solar pump for a stainless, mounted Mark II and see if that helps. I also plan to add a boil condenser per BrunDog’s thread to eliminate the steam. I’ll be ordering the parts this week and hope to get another brew going in the next...

Condo Brewing V2 - Custom eBIAB Build Thread (120V)

I have both 1650 and 2250 elements. I use the 1650W element with the InkBird. It is enough to get 7.5 gallons boiling though it’s not going to set any speed records. I am still planning to build a custom controller which will be able to handle the 2250W element. I just haven’t found the time...
