    I hate HomeDepot!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I work at Lowe's part time while I'm going to college. Yeah, its not the best job in the world, but its a paycheck. One thing to realize is that these stores have a lot of departments. I work in lumber/building materials; if anyone has questions on what kind of drywall to use in their garage...

    Trellis Designs?

Had to gussy up my original eye bolt and twine idea--per SWMBO... I've always been one for bare-bones functionality, but this oughta be a nice project for me now that it is warm. This will go on the East facing side of the house, which faces an empty lot, to break up the monotony. By the...

    Bored at work??

You could increase velocity and accuracy by putting the dart in the opposite side of the pen tube (so it travels the length of the tube before being expelled).

    Growing hops near tomatoes.

I know exactly what you are talking about (grafting, that is). I did a lot of reading on that. I've heard varying reports saying that it works or doesn't work. Apparently, hops will have no problem grafting onto its close cousin, but it is still a hops plant (with no assimilated attributes from...

    little baby three tier

That's what its all about: Sitting on cinder blocks, sippin' a brew. That looks about as ghetto-tech as my setup. A+

    Yeast Starter

I use ovaltine (the original malt flavor, not chocolate). Bring 2 cups ovaltine and 4 cups of water to a boil for 15 min. Let cool to 70 degrees, pitch yeast, aerate. I had airlock activity in about 5 hours.

    Eisbock

I was thinking of making an Eisbock (considering it is 3 degrees outside right now). I used an ale yeast, so I'm pretty sure most of it will die during the freezing. I can always wash the yeast from the cake and repitch when I prime, right? I was wondering if anyone else has tried this...

    Scrap wood powered wort boiler

Yeah, maybe the forced air is overkill. Plus the extra electricity used for the fan might negate the free source of fuel. All I know is that my current burner is drastically under-powered. It was a turkey cooker on clearance at Lowe's (probably for good reason, the pot developed a pinhole...

    Scrap wood powered wort boiler

Holy Crap, that is a lot of brew! You have to be right though. I mean how else would they have heated the wort back then? I'm sure the smoke would only impart a minimal flavor in the beer as it is always going to be rising up around the kettle. I'm going to be burning mainly hardwood scraps...

    Scrap wood powered wort boiler

I'm planning on making a scrap wood fueled wort boiler out of a metal milk jug and the blower out of a shop-vac. I throw away tons of scrap wood and pallets every day at work. I figure that instead of rotting away in some landfill, it could be boiling my wort. It is roughly the same principle...
