Installing retaining ring on Sanke Keg

    First bottling tomorrow

Good idea, as a general rule of thumb you should condition the beer at the same temp that you ferment at. As always I would keep them cover up. Simply put light=bad. :-) Tom

    First bottling tomorrow

Yeah I concur, I cap after all are full. One thing I have found for even carbonation of bottles. I add my priming sugar dissolved in water to my bottling bucket FIRST. The is transfer the beer into the bottling bucket. This makes for a nice even distribution of the priming sugar. Just my...

    Cask Brewing at home

Hello all. I would love to serve cask beer at home. I have been able to sample many cask beers over the last year and would love to add this to my home brew setup. I already have a 5 gallon oak barrel. Can someone please tell me what else I need? I know I need the beer engine which seems to be...

    External Termostat Advice needed

I believe closer to the top would be best but if you are really concerned you could mount a little cpu case fan inside there to move the air around in there but I doubt you would need that. Like you said just keep it from resting on the inside metal.

    Mounting Air distributor in fridge

I just got this air distributor from the beverage factory: http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/regulator/distributors/tf_1744s_aluminum_four_way_air_distributor.shtml I want to mount it inside the fridge. I don't believe there is any cooling running in the back or sides of the fridge. So...

    Black IPA recipe

I actually got to speak to the head brewer from Stone about dry hopping at this yeasr ACBF in Boston. He said only dry hop for 3-5 days and the end. So if you want in secondary for 2 weeks dry hop the last 3 days.

    Big Beers...how much time?

hmm after reading this thread perhaps that is why my Double Bastard Clone (OG of 1.110) Did not taste great after 2 weeks in primary and 1 week in secondary and 2 keg weeks. That's why I took Revvs advice and put them both back in my closet. See you in the spring!

To dump out or not dump out

Thanks for all the help. This was a version of Stone's Double Bastard. It had 18.5lbs of 2row and 2.5 lbs of Crystal 120. The OG gravity should have been aroung 1.110 (I have achieved it in the second go around) However due to a bad crush of grains (most were still whole) I only achieved an OG...

To dump out or not dump out

Ok here is the problem. I had a big beer that I added more malt in the primary because the OG was very low. Then I moved it to secondary and kegged it. The problem is that now it tastes like you are chewing malt. I know the alcohol content is up there around 10% and I have learned a lesson. So...

Brewing a 1.100 - how to make sure I hit the OG

I can't remeber where I read the thread here but I brew a lot of beers with SG of 1.110 and can hit it consistantly with no extract. Instead of only sparging with 5 gallons of water I will run off close to 9.5 gallons and then boil it down with an average evaporation rate of .9 gallons an hour...

IIPA Still Fermenting After 3.5 Weeks

Yep this happened to me about 2 weeks ago. I took my gravity reading and it was done. I bottled it and I drank the stuff I used to take the gravity reading and it was Yummy! To bad I promised this batch to a friend for his birthday. :(
