And they'll likely get even more now....

    This sucks

No more $7.99 flat rate shipping? Apparently Northern Brewer JUST dropped it - as in the last few days. I used to order 3-4 kits at a time (sans yeast) and still get it shipped for $7.99. Just put 2 kits in my cart and shipping would have been $21.00!! Any suggestions on who I should use now...

Can't get fermentation chamber temp down

Fan installed. Already down to 53 degrees - which I haven't seen yet. Ice on the freezer coil (?) is disappearing as well. AWESOME advice, folks. Thank you!

Can't get fermentation chamber temp down

Wow, Starman. You blew my mind with that equation. Here are the specs (all outer dimensions). Fridge: 33"h, 20w, 18d Chamber: 36", 32w, 26d Chipped away at as much ice as I could last night. Most of it is back this morning. Time to get the fan in there. Any suggestions were to place it...

Can't get fermentation chamber temp down

Thanks. Funny I thought that ice buildup would help, throwing more, below freezing air. I have a fan I was ready to put in my keezer. Maybe it's better used here? And let's assume the internal temp is running just 5 degrees warmer. I'm now above the yeast happy zone (48-58). Wonderful.

Can't get fermentation chamber temp down

Hey all. Got an Octoberfest fermenting in my homemade chamber at 56 degrees. Johnson controller is set at 52. Can't seem to get the temperature down. Here's the setup: Got an old fridge and built a box around it with doors on the front - like most others have done. The inside of the...

    BIAB Mash Temp Measurement

Alright I've had it. I think it's time to bite the bullet, drill a hole in the lid and order up a digital thermometer with a long probe. The Oregon Scientific remote thermometer I've been using must be getting wet - despite being waterproofed! Temps are way off when checked against my...

Northern Brewer - Dry Dock Urca Vanilla Porter Pro Series

Northern Brewer / Dry Dock Vanilla Porter

Did use 1056 and the mash was 150 for 60 minutes. The vanilla has just a bit too much of a presence for my taste, but it's still good. I think they give you 6 (?) madagascar beans. I might dial that back a bit on my next go round. Highly recommend this kit, though. Tastes almost like a...

Northern Brewer / Dry Dock Vanilla Porter

Hey all. Taking my first pulls from the keg and really enjoying this one. The thing that's jumping out at me is a very smooth/velvety mouth feel. But I can't figure out what's contributing to it. Here's the grain bill. Any guesses? 4.25 lbs English Maris Otter 4.25 lbs Rahr 2-Row Pale...

Lost carbonation after bottling from keg

Good one. I'll try filling at the same pressure next time. After all I'm paying for that CO2 I'm letting escape. Like that chilled StarSan idea too! Thanks folks!

Lost carbonation after bottling from keg

Hey all. Recently tried bottling from a keg for the first time, and now my previously well carbonated brew is flat. Here's what I did: Used the low tech racking cane attached to a picnic tap method, with a rubber stopper to control the flow into the bottle and let the air purge. I dialed...

    BIAB Mash Temp Measurement

By calibration do you mean turn the set screw to rotate the face with the temps on it? Yeah did that. A couple times. I'd get it aligned with my digital at a lower, room temp, but it would not stay aligned as temps increased.

    BIAB Mash Temp Measurement

Veedo - Temp isn't dropping much this time of year brewing outdoors in Mass. I typically hit the temp, then every 15 minutes give it a good stir and measure again. Then I fire up the burner (on low) as needed to warm up a bit. Yesterday (85 outdoors) I only had to heat it twice during the 60...

    BIAB Mash Temp Measurement

Hey everyone. Interested in how you Brew in a Bag -ers measure your mash temps. I have a 10 gal Boilermaker but don't have the Brewmometer installed. That thing was WAY off (what a piece of %^%*&%) and even if it worked I was concerned it would snag (or put a hole in) the bag I've tried...

My Kenmore 8.8cf coffin keezer build

I think I leapfrogged you. I was going crazy trying to figure out why I couldn't get four kegs to fit to the right of the hump like everyone else. Finally dawned on me that I got the 7.2...not the 8.8 Glad to hear business is doing well. Good problem to have. Cheers.

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

Hi all. Just kegged my try at this 3 days ago, so it's still young. I have no idea what it's supposed to taste like but here are my notes.. During fermentation, the smell coming from the blow off was a thing of beauty - like many others have mentioned. Took a taste after 10 days in Primary...

    Starter looks odd...

So this yeast is now doing its thing in a Zombie Dust Clone. But because I don't have any cooling setup for fermentation yet, and my basement is slowly warming up, the temp topped out at 70-71. Basement temp has been 63-65. Temp range for this yeast goes up to 72 according to Wyeast. I'm...

    Starter looks odd...

Hey all. Got my starter together last night, so it's been churning for about 12 hours now. Looks a little different than my usual starters though - almost like the yeast is not mixing with the wort. I'm used to a milky white-ish liquid after 24 hours. Any thoughts? There are 2 packs of...
