What are your tips for keeping costs down

That's works out if you have a local homebrew store, none close to me however, and the one that is remotely close totally sucks.

Yeast sonetimes light and granular - other times like a rubber pancake

Possibly a few more days and it might have compacted. S-04 usually packs down firm.

Most chocolate least roast in a malt?

@Sotko I had a beer that I had shared with the beer club that I was in at the time and shared the recipe. One member brewed the beer with minimal changes and won an award in some competition Minimal rye flavor due to the roasting of the malt, although I felt it gave more of a chocolate...

Can mash get hotter after turning off the heat source?

The only thing that makes sense, is that the burner was not entirely off. A 28 degree gain is a lot of energy.

Is tartaric acid going to be a bad thing for fermenting?

I'm doubtful of the 16-20% claims, but I could be wrong.

Should I brew this ancient Coopers?

It never would have made good beer, even if it was fresh. It should have been shot with a large caliber weapon. I wanted to see it explode.

Is tartaric acid going to be a bad thing for fermenting?

It will do fine. Although, I would use wine yeast as vs bread yeast. Most varieties are just under $1 a pack. One pack will be an overpitch, but why save it at that price point? My "go to" yeast for wines and ciders is K1V-1116. Personally, I'd add in a bit more sugar, but that's just me.

    Grain Mill Help

Some people have luck flipping the passive roller, so that it uses "the other side" of the knurls.

Can mash get hotter after turning off the heat source?

    It really doesn't seem possible.

5 gallon Cornelius keg filled to 4 and 5 gals

@Cider Wraith Super Clean and a brush will do a good job on cleaning up the handles to get them looking great @Mtozbun A bit of fine sandpaper when the handles are wet will get the "crust" off of the handles and get them looking better.

cherry sour, weird growth in bottles

My guess, it that it will be fine. Just for safe measure, store the bottles in a plastic tote or something for a while, just in case any explode to contain the mess. After a month or two, they shold be fine to go into your usual storage location.

cherry sour, weird growth in bottles

What was the FG at bottling time and how much priming sugar did you add to the batch?

    Hose Storage?

My way is a bit low tech, I use cup hooks. I hook the rings from the camlock connectors on the hooks. It works.
