    IS MY FERMENTATION STUCK?

Did the starter see fine? Do you know for sure it went and had activity? If yes, I can't see any reason whatsoever why you wouldn't get the beer going with it. I've had a few beers go off to a really slow start and end up fine. It's nerve wracking when you've also had beers show signs within a...

Conserving Water & Overall Less Wasteful

After I've cleaned a keg, I throw the parts inside it (gaskets, poppets, etc.) and loosely sit the lid on it. Then cover it with a shopping bag put on upside down. When I go to use it I figure I just need minimal sanitizing. When that day comes it's just a few cups of water and a dash of star...

    Spot the Space Station

I'm curious to find a legit (not that she's wrong but something I can more easily look up and follow) source on it? A site I can visit occasionally for updates if anyone has one. I'm not worried just agreeing it's certainly very interesting.

    What's your "burn" rate?

I'd guess something similar. The last one for me was maybe 4 years ago, and I brew maybe 10 times a year. I know that's 1:40 but there were a couple before then that were quicker. * Very first batch on my AIO tasted like fireworks (sulphur). No copper rod or other tricks got rid of it and it...

    Reading a hydrometer - confused

I've found the "right" way to read it actually depends on the manufacturer. I'd have assumed it was 1-size-fits-all for the method, but no, different company's instruction manuals will actually give different methods. I like the idea of checking it in distilled or RO room temp water and finding...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

^^^ Yeah good points. It's not as inexpensive as it sounds. The crowd that might like it might not care a ton about the range, but also might be the crowd that isn't as able to plug it in overnight in their own garage at their own home.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

It's cheap enough that a "young adult" crowd might really get into it. Either because a handful have them and their friends decide they like them too, or some enthusiast group gets into it (i.e. Scion XB's and such were silly but had followers). It's already able to be converted, I could see...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Certainly there are cases where EV's make less sense. The issue is that so many people that they make sense for don't realize it. And to be clear you could do the trip, but with stops every 200 miles (3 hours or so of driving). For about a half hour. Maybe not this precise trip, but generally...

    Spot the Space Station

I've seen it a few times too, it's unbelievable. Fishing in Florida just past the Everglades, and camping "up north" in MN. Nothing like another planet, but stupid dark. Milky way was easy to find, satellites, you name it. Some constellations actually got tougher on account of so many more...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Reading the article, finally, I will also agree that it's unlikely Tesla is doing anything like this on purpose (or at all). But I'd not call it a hit piece. From what I can gather it was a statement of fact that a lawsuit exists, and what it is about. It also uses words like "allege" and so...

Q for Ritebrew customers, how good is their milling?

I just buy each time I brew. It's about monthly. I have ordered for two brews a few times over history if I knew I wanted one to sit a while (i.e. a lager) and would actually brew two back to back, but not normally. I've munched on raw grains once, sampling here and there just out of curiosity...

I have over primed my beer, what should I do to salvage it?

What if the caps were all removed, and the new caps placed on top but not crimped? It'd be a start on keeping new O2 out. Maybe with a smidgen of weight on them, a small rock like from landscaping (golf ball size or so, no boulders). Just thinking out loud.

    Dissolving dry malt extract

Seems like, with so many things brewing, if you have a repeatable process then it's good enough. I put DME in after the mash partly so that it doesn't get in the way of any extraction from the grains, and so that afterwards it's in the boil and contributing its gravity as far as hops work and...

Q for Ritebrew customers, how good is their milling?

I buy from them often, and have actually parked my mill for about a half year now. I took a gamble and had them mill some grains and yeah I think it's been perfect. Looks like my own mill with a .030" gap set with feeler gauges. Efficiency didn't change a bit either. I've converted to having...

    Windows 11

Day_Trippr's got a good question about the D drive, it's possibly a backup partition (though that might normally be hidden), a CD drive (?) or even a USB or similar that was inserted at some point but now removed. So there's some chance you can find whatever used to be D and put it back into...

    Frustration with my GasOne kettle

If it isn't an obvious fix, maybe post a picture. I can't imagine any 1/2" ball valves clogging in normal use. Also it's been shown time and again you don't have to worry too much about keeping trub in the kettle. If it goes against your inner nature, I totally get it, but I'd suggest try it at...

I know this is Homebrewtalk but I have to know more about that Stormtrooper off to the side.

    Mexican Lager at Room Temp

I'd be interested to know more about this as well. I can get my setup into the high 50's but that's about all. I've found that the Mexican yeast strains in particular (White Labs or Imperial, Wyeast doesn't seem to have one) are also important. To me they taste more like the real thing. By that...
