    Starsan?

After reading about almost everyone praise the godness of starsan I decided to give it a go instead of my k-sulfite (Which smell like s...). Made my first dilution today. 5ml(0.20oz) in 0.80GAL (3L). I don't know what I was expecting but the solution is.... pretty clear. I mean it doesn't...

    Whitehouse beer recipe

I read somewhere that mashing is also very water volume dependent. When I steep my grains it's in my 4GAL partial boil. So I guess I couldn't steep munich in such water volume because the concentration of starch is too low to get a good conversion (or any conversion). If I would like to use...

    Whitehouse beer recipe

Hmm, when i steep its 30 min @ 155 (crystals) so im mashing? What is steeping then?

    Whitehouse beer recipe

Then what is the difference between mashing and steeping if they are both done at same temperature. I understand munich cam self convert and some other grain need to be mashed with base malts so theu can convert but this is all leading to "why isnt munich listed as steep also if it can self...

    Whitehouse beer recipe

How long should i steep munich? I understand what you say now. What is the difference beween a steep and a mash in that scenario and why isnt munich listed as steep?

    Whitehouse beer recipe

Hmmm not sure I get it correctly. According to all grain list I've read Munich is required to be mashed. I understand what you say (Or so I think) but why isn't it also listed as Steep grain? Would it be possible with a simple 2row malt? John Palmer says Dextrin malt must be mashed...

    Whitehouse beer recipe

I was reading the whitehouse recipes and noticed they were stepping Munich malt in their extract recipe. I though Munich couldn't be step and had to me mashed?

    Bottles

What matter is the cap and not the capper (Twist off cap on twist off bottle of course...). At my LHBS I buyed a bench capper with twist off caps and was told that it would work just as good as the other caps (On non twist off bottle). However they warned me NOT to try to remove a twist off just...

    food grade plastic?

You've got a point. Oxy-san also come in plastic, but powder form, so might not be active? But might be food-grade plastic :P
  12. K

    food grade plastic?

So if it's not even food that touch my plastic tray guess it shouldn't be much of a problem. I was more afraid that oxysan or starsan would "melt" or "dissolve" the plastic or small particles in the plastic and would get on my tools.

    food grade plastic?

I know that a food grade plastic is important for mashing or fermentation vessels but I was following one of revvy tips on getting those water tray for wall tapestry so I could put my stirring spoon, autosiphon and all other things that cannot be put to sanitize in a small bucket (So they are...

    Couple of bottling/sanitizing questions

Hey thank for the link I'll go check that. I'm planing to buy a vinator and starsan and a beer rack tree (going there at lunch time in fact). No worries I wasn't arguing your methods but merely trying to understand why it works when most site say "soak" for 30 second at least. You just...

    Couple of bottling/sanitizing questions

My wall of text was awful? Sorry those were question I accumulated and couldn't find proper answer on the web. Nevertheless I think after reading so many articles I start to find a converging point. Problem is so many people have different view/opinions/knowledge about a same topic. I have...

    Couple of bottling/sanitizing questions

So I'm getting ready to bottle my beer and after reading and reading, I have more question than I had. I did read revvy tutorial in this section (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/bottling-tips-homebrewer-94812/) As I understand he use a vinator and starsan to sanitize the beer bottle. I...

    Time in primary

What is stalling exactly? I know it can happen when beer is exposed to direct sunlight to much or oxygen.
  19. K

    Time in primary

When you rack to secondary, there is still yeast in the beer so would it be possible that the gravity still change in the secondary?
  20. K

    Time in primary

Oh really? I though I've seen places where people measure that their gravity before racking is higher than when bottling. So even before I rack I should check my gravity to make sure it either match the gravity I was supose to reach or it didn't move for a few days. Just to make sure, when...
