Getting Started - Skip extract and go straight to BIAB?

I started brew back in February and started off with AG BIAB. I dont regret it one bit. Of the 2 batches I've done so far both have been excellent beers. I spent 4 months planning out what equipment to buy and watching video after video on Youtube on how to brew. I also bought How to Brew by...

Weissbier Bee Cave Brewery Bavarian Hefeweizen

Just finished drinking the first bottle of this recipe. Brewed a month ago as my second AG batch (2nd batch ever that is). I must say this is an excellent beer. I will definitely be adding this to my list of beers to brew again and again. Great job Edwort! Next time I'm out towards...

First Brew (BIAB) Day in over a year

Thats correct. You want them to run the grain through twice. I've never had a problem with them trying to get me to buy rice hulls though. It could be that the sales rep just wasn't aware of what BIAB truely is. I've heard of plenty of people getting 80%+ efficiency using BIAB just having...

First Brew (BIAB) Day in over a year

If you are getting your grain milled over at AHS you can tell them that you need it double crushed for BIAB. They have been extremely helpful in that aspect with me and my grain has been perfectly done (getting 78-82% mash eff). Make sure you stir plenty and check your temps in several spots...

Advice on my first coffee stout (currently in primary)

I just finished the last bottle of my Coffee Malt Stout tonight. I bottled 5.25 gallons and added 8oz of cold brewed coffee with 24oz water at bottling. The coffee flavor was pretty strong so for next time I would proably cut it down to 4-6oz. As far as sanitizing, there really isnt much you...

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

I just lift the bag some while I fire my burner during mash out. I use a bungie strap to hold the bag in place so it doesnt sink back down. Works great for me.

    Craigslist is awesome!

Man yall are lucky! CL here is horrid, took me 4 months of looking before I found a decent chest freezer for under $200 and that was only 9 cu ft, got it for $100 and still had to travel 45 minutes to get it. I can never find used brewing gear either. :( People here want $80-90 just for a...

Weissbier Bee Cave Brewery Bavarian Hefeweizen

I brewed this recipe yesterday. Everything went great and I even overshot my pre-boil gravity by .002 (1.042 instead of 1.040). OG came in low though as I misjudged my boil off and had to much left in the kettle after boil (1.049 instead of 1.052). Oh well I still made beer! :) Looking...

    First Brew Fermentation Question

I only have a hydrometer. I tested with both that I have though and got the same readings. I did sanitize my stainless spoon and very gently stirred to get some yeast back in suspension on the advice of a long time homebrewer friend. Hoping that helps get me down a little further. I'll let...

    First Brew Fermentation Question

So I brewed a AHS Coffee Malt Stout all-grain kit using BIAB method on Feb 2. Airlock was bubbling away 6 hours after pitching and stayed at a very vigorous bubbling for 3 days and then just stopped. Out of curiosity (yes I know a bad trait for fermentation) I checked the gravity on Feb 5 and...

    First BIAB Brew Finished!

Well I have finished my first brew day! Took longer than expected but I was happy with the outcome. I had spent months on these and other forums researching and planning everything out step by step. Recipe was a all-grain kit of AHS Coffee Malt Stout. 10.25 lb grain bill and 1oz Galena...

Best online source for BIAB pre-crushed grain?

I know when I went in to Austin Homebrew they didn't give me any issues when I asked them to double crush the grains. I told them it was for BIAB and the sales guy understood right away the reasoning. I will have no problems ordering from then again and again.

question on a keg for a keggle conversion

You can't just assume that someone that has kegs got them by "shady" means. I use a keg in my setup, but received it from a buddy who owns a bar and was going to toss it out after the distributor said they didn't want it back. :ban:
