    Kegging Questions

How do you purge the O2 from the keg prior to putting the beer into it?

    2 L Soda Bottles

Nice informative link. Symbol 1 = Good Symbol 7 = bad Got it. Now back to refilling my plastic bottles with "gasp!" tap water.

    2 L Soda Bottles

I researched a little bit about this today and nothing was quite definite. Once source conflicts another. However, one experiment showed that people who drank out of plastic bottles had higher levels of BPA in their urine than those who drank from stainless steel which in turn means they were...

    2 L Soda Bottles

I've "heard" that refilling a water bottle with water could be bad for you due to leaching. I've never personally researched it so I have zero factual information, just heresay. This sounds like a good topic to research tomorrow at work :)

    2 L Soda Bottles

I'm still pretty new to brewing myself but I think 2L soda bottles is a bad idea. Not only the crappy plastic leeching but I doubt they will be able to withstand the pressures of carbonation. My thoughts would be to keg the beer then when you visit friends grab a 1 gallon growler and fill it...

    My Keezer Build

Is your freezer currently on? I wonder how much cold air you lose from this trap door. I really want to make this happen on mine but I'm afraid insulating it enough to keep the cold air in would be an issue.

How many gallons of Homebrew in 2012?

Making a starter -Am I doing it right?

Okay, you guys talked me into it. Thanks for the help This time next week I will have a scale to correctly measure my next starter. Also, I'll start working on a DIY stir plate so hopefully I can do it right from here on out

Making a starter -Am I doing it right?

I wonder if it would be best to forgo the stater this time and just pitch it without. I can always pitch another jar if necessary. One thing I didn't understand I guess is the fact you don't pitch the whole starter. That's why I didn't want to do 1L. I have a lot more reading to do!

Making a starter -Am I doing it right?

I've read the numerous threads about yeast starters and went to Mr. Matly.com and all that but I just want to make sure I'm doing this right since I'm a yeastie virgin. I washed my yeast on Thursday of last week (10 days ago) and I'm using one of the jars from that for tomorrow's brew day...

    fermentation temp

The only smell my wife didn't like was my first two extract batches i brewed on the kitchen stove. Since then I have graduated to a turkey fryer in my garage. I rarely detect a smell from the fermentation unless I have my nose up to it. But, you do have to choose your battles I guess. I'm...

    My Keezer Build

I LOVEthe the trap door idea! I have a 20 cu ft freezer that is waaaay too big for what I need right now. This trap door filled with cold glasses is a perfect idea to fill up some of the unused real estate I have in my freezer. Please post pics when you get the hinges on with it open. I would...

    My Mash Paddle Build

Very nice. I have my board ready to make mine, I just have to find the time to do it. I'm too busy working on my Keezer now that my mash tun is done. I plan to personalize the paddle a bit though by carving an Arrowhead in it for my KC Chiefs.

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

Bernie, Thanks again for this guide. I was able to wash yeast for the first time tonight and it all went according to plan. Now I guess I get to wait a couple days to see how my little mason jars compare to yours. I hope to re-use the first one within the next week. Cheers :mug:
