    Reptilla Heating Mat, Need Help.

I use this one with a temperature controller and an insulated space. It is 25watts and works great. http://www.williamsbrewing.com/BREWERS-EDGE-SPACE-HEATER-P518C100.aspx

    Sanke Fermentation Anxiety

I have the same setup as you. I found that I had leakage from the racking cane area. I tightened it up and also put a hose clamp on the blowoff tube. Before that, I had minimal bubbling. All good now...

Crausen pushed out the foam stopper in the starter flask

This has happened to me twice. I did as you did, rinsed and sanitized the stopper and pitched at the appropriate time. I had no issues with contamination. What yeast strain was it? The last one I had a volcano with was Wyeast 1945 Neo Brittania.

Looking for a pump to replace my March 809 Pump

The problems that I have encountered have been due to my own mistakes. I have let the pump run dry, which resulted in the pump squeaking badly. However, the pump still worked. I have also had problems with air getting into the system because I did not have adequate sealing. Since I have...

Looking for a pump to replace my March 809 Pump

Can't you just replace the pump head? I bought a spare to have on hand just in case of a problem.

I want a conical fermenter, but boil in garage and ferment in basement. Any suggesti

I boil in the garage and ferment in a 1/2 barrel keg fermenter, which is in the basement. I make several trips using a sanitized bucket. Easy on the back and like another poster mentioned, better for aeration. I considered using a sanitized length of silicon tubing, but figured that keeping...

    Starter or not to Starter??????

Unless I'm using dry yeast, I always make a starter. I have not had a stuck fermentation since doing so. Well, there is one exception. My last Saison using WY3724 stuck at 1.035, but that is typical for that strain.

Need Help - Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

At least 12 hours. Preferably 18 hours

Need Help - Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

At this point, I would just pitch it. It is always preferable to make a starter, but I don't think you have time to do that.

Need Help - Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

I have brewed several batches with 3724. All fermented well around 80 degrees. I suggest making a starter of at least 2 liters. I never brew with liquid yeast without making a starter.

    Mail order yeast tips

I have had really bad luck with buying yeast online. Unless using dry, I always buy yeast from my LHBS.

    First A-G abortion...

I have the NB 10 gal size false bottom. I had problems with stuck mashes due to grain underneath the false bottom as well. I had not assembled it properly inside the Mash tun. The tube that connects the elbow on top of the false bottom was about 1/2" too long, which prevented the false...

    Right place

I was even luckier!! Got a call from a good friend of mine that he spotted three 1/2 barrel kegs at the local dump. He grabbed them for me. They were empty and the spears were already removed. Major score for me!!! Good luck with yours.

Home made mash tun keeps blocking

Ditto on cutting more slots. I used my bandsaw to cut a slot every 1/4" in my manifold. I made sure to cut the slot 1/2 way through by using a stop block on my bandsaw table. Took no time at all. I have had no stuck mashes, and I typically do not use a tube to add siphon, but I will try...

    Bottling from keg, how long?

I only use my beergun if the beers will be consumed within a week. I find that the carbonation is not the same as bottle conditioned beer. I will also be giving out beer as gifts this season but they will be bottle conditioned.

Bad Pack of Wyeast 2112? What is the lag time?

The biggest lesson that I have learned in my brewing career is to have a backup yeast plan. I always have S-04, US-05 and S-23 on hand just in case. I have had to go to plan B on more than one occasion, especially with yeast shipped in warmer months. My LHBS prices are really high, so I...

Bad Pack of Wyeast 2112? What is the lag time?

I had a similar experience as you had. Made a starter on Friday night with 2112 (July MFG date). It was a 2-liter starter on a stir plate. I saw no activity, so i pitched Saflager S-23 into the starter 1 hour before pitching. Pitched the whole thing into my Baltic porter and it really...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?
